You can totally feel it in Return of the Joker on the GB. Batman though, it's so good. They cheated a bit by naming all the generic enemies after various Batman enemies in the manual. So like dude that jogs at you in levels 2 and 4 is Maxie Zeus, slow guy with the huge claw in 2/4 is Nightslasher, the flame thrower guy is named Heatwave, etc. To that end I do think it was meant to be a Batman game from the start in that you do straight up fight Killer Moth, Electrocutioner, etc. in it. There's just enough stuff that makes it fit. The weirdest one though is that the sword wielding shuriken guy from the movie, whom you fight in the game just before fighting Killer Moth in the first level. The manual refers to him as KGBeast.

Honestly, if they had tried to match the levels to the movie, then it probably would have turned out to be crap. The fact that they made a great game and adapted it to Batman made the end results be much better.

I'm very disappointed that none of the Lego Batman games has featured a level where Joker defaces the museum. That would sustain a game in and of itself. ALL HAIL THE NEW KING IN TOW-OWN... YOUNG AND OLD... GATHER ROU-OUND...

It would need the cleaning paintings part like in the PC Engine game. I love it.

I first rented the original NES Batman in 1990 from a mom and pop store that had imported the Famicom version and rented it with a converter attached. The game looked and sounded so good, I thought it was a Genesis game and it was some kind of magic converter to run on NES.

Great idea for an article! How far are you planning to go with this? Sega? Atari? Acclaim? (Ughh...)

Batman was among the first 6 NES games I had. I got it together with Bionic Commando and Mega Man 2. Back then, I considered it the weakest among the three, but looking back, I really had a solid package there.

The first NES Batman from Sunsoft had the best Game Over theme ever. Who else agrees with me? ThunderForce 3 and 5. All Day. Every Day.

One thing I always wondered about. That sword guy... It looks like he's smoking a cigarette before he finally decides to fight. Is he? How did that get past NoA, if he is?
