Platinum\Clover are probably my favorite developers at the moment. All their games are fun and batshit insane; God Hand, Okami, Bayonetta, and MGS: Rising... they are all so goddamn fun! Bayonetta is maybe their 'best' game: the mechanics & controls are so solid... and on top of that the game is just insane; the intro is scientifically unforgettable (that x6 angel tombstone suplex!). --Metal Gear Rising felt like a modern adaptation of Strider-- The connection never even occurred to me but it's so right.

I've said it before but platinuming Bayonetta when my friend said it was impossible for me is what showed me I was capable of playing these superfast twitchy action games. I love all their games, 'cept maybe Madworld, which I can't really play for extended times due to the tiring waggle controls. Good time for this thread, as well, since I just restarted playing Viewtiful Joe 2 the other day. I"d stopped at the 2nd stage, and am now being told I'm at around the midway point. Love that Astor seems to be using Dante's sword and moves.

Wasn't Astor one of Dante's Sword's names? And odd how you'd be playing that when I recently picked up Viewtiful Joe myself. Because I felt like trying to be good at action games after discovering I had a little skill in DMC/Bayonetta if i focused. Turns out Viewtiful Joe is a horse of a different color I suppose. But I didn't expect to many people to play it again lately.

I tried playing through it and just wanted to play the other two, lol.

This is actually my first playthrough. My friends been urging me to play through alot of PS2 era games I skipped over and this is the current one I'm playing. I had a fun time with the first Viewtiful Joe that my friend had, but he didn't have part 2, so I went ahead and picked it up. And you're right it's a completely different beast compared to Bayonetta. I'm always overabusing Slow to my failure, or forgetting how to do some of the harder moves. Doesn't help that I stopped playing it for a couple of months and had to relearn damn near everything again. Still very fun. I like how Sylvia's way more important.

Mmmmh... I'd say Revengeance lacks the acrobatic platforming elements that were so important in Strider. All in all, Revengeance is a slash'em up fighting game, Strider is a platformer first and foremost. Mmmmh.... Yeah.... I don't see MGSR as a spiritual homage to Strider.

All in all, Revengeance is a slash'em up fighting game, Strider is a platformer first and foremost. Mmmmh.... Yeah.... I don't see MGSR as a spiritual homage to Strider. He's a futuristic ninja, with a fancy sword, and a robot panther, hang gliding into a futuristic Soviet bloc... just to start. He is supported by his own Blue Dragon base and Striders (Maverick). The game is then filled with memorable bosses(even a robot dinosaur which roars and shoots lasers out of its mouth and attempts to crush you), and even non-boss metal apes, which require memorization and platforming elements to defeat. He also must fight another person similar to himself, originally good, turned evil, just like Strider Kain. The enemy plans to remove the brains from children to create more soldiers, going further to control the minds of the masses, just like Strider's ZAIN project, a mind-control weapon. Not to mention... what was everybody raving about with Rising? "Dynamic music"... what did the original Strider arcade game have... yeah... dynamic music. Check it out sometime, notice how the music changes depend on which area you reach(within the same stage). The snow running segment has an upbeat and epic tune while it drops to a desperate melody as you climb the lightning tower seconds later.

Soooo... is The Legend of Korra worth getting for the Xbox One? It's under $10 here in Australia, and it's only a 2.3 gig file. Don't wanna grab it if it's pure crap though. Not too familiar with anything Airbender/Korra either.
I know it was met with fan and critical apathy, but, you know, it's $9.??

It's still a Platinum game, even if it's not their best, so you can expect something with some pretty good combat. It is very much a licensed game, and yes, it's clearly not their A team working on it. It's also very short. That said, for a Nickelodeon licensed game, it's amazing, the combat is pretty fun, and there's still a pretty decent amount of depth in there. You've still got your dodge off sets, and all that. You don't HAVE to be super familiar with the show, I don't think. There's a few references to other characters and events, but the actual plot is basically entirely self-contained from the rest of the series.

Aoi : Fair enough, you got some good points to support your argument, respect! Just a little thing concerning Strider's music: of course I've played that game to death, and know its music by heart. And it's just a matter of different sensibilities, but the music that acompanies you as you scale the electric installation with the beautiful clouds in the background was never sad or desperate to me; au contraire, I feel it as a perfect track for describing the majesty of those clouds and being on top of the world. The theme is perfectly reused in level 5, in a blood-pumping attack theme that is just awesome. That "above the clouds" track from level 2 is actually my favorite track in the whole game. But I don't see it as desperate or sad at all. Funny how our different tastes lead us to perceive radically different emotions in the same track. ...and that's all I wanted to say, just that. And again, good points regarding MGR.

I'm not the only one who enjoyed Korra, am I? [...]for a Nickelodeon licensed game, it's spectacular. So excluding the retroactive case of Konami TMNT, ya mean something has dethroned SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom as the best Nickelodeon game in years?

Maybe just more so due to it being after the lighthearted melody coming down the mountain, and before the fast paced climb to the airship. Downhill run @ 7:26 Lightning tower @ 8:43 Regardless. Strider is one of my all time favorite games too =3

Scalebound is starting to look really, really nice. And the Transformers game is pretty boss as well.

Someone's a How to Train Your Dragon fan.
Xbone's got some serious exclusives brewing up. Between SB, Cuphead and that ex-Retro/inafune game, it's looking damn tempting.
