The original Unreal doesn't get enough love compared to it tournament spinoff we all know and love by now (the little matter of Unreal 1's actual sequel being so-so didn't help much).
The Timesplitters series went down with the ship too soon. RIP Free Radical.
Also, Rocket: Robot on Wheels needs a bigger place in history---it was doing Havok physics and gravity guns five whole years before Half-Life 2 (and prettymuch every game after it) was!

The Timesplitters series went down with the ship too soon. RIP Free Radical. Plenty of people talk about Timesplitters, but you're nevertheless right, it's depressing to think it's been over a decade now since the last installment, it's also depressing that I never got to play it's incredible multiplayer online, that would've been the shit. At least Future Perfect ended the series on a high note, but even if it was made by a different dev Timesplitters would be a perfect IP to resurrect.

I was always disappointed that nothing could be worked out to make an HD collection out of the first 3 games on PS3. Though I suppose it's possible nobody could get access to the game's assets to make them hi-res... No idea there, really.

I feel like Treasure Hunter G and Gunman's Proof would qualify (both are Japanese SNES games). Probably because they're not as hyped as say Secret of Mana 2, but I love both games and feel outside of a few diehard circles (such as here), no one really ever talks about them, or praise them in recommendation type threads.

The weird part is, I don't see much love for Unreal Tournament either! Outside of the occasional flashbacks some gamers have about the 2000s and early internet connections, of course. I really wish DM gameplay didn't die a horrible neglect-filled death. At least there's Quake Live!

Hands of Time (GBC)
Pretty good isometric action game reminiscent of Metal Gear with some pretty good music
Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles (PS2/DC/PC)
A Tim Burton-esque 3D platformer that was published by Ubisoft but only in Europe. You definitely get a American McGee's Alice vibe from it and the music is really good.

Unreal was pretty well-received when it was released... but then Half-Life was released half a year later and buried it. And then Unreal Tournament buried all memories of single player Unreal (as did the sequel).

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, comes to mind. It's Fire Emblem gameplay with Bleach story&characters. As popular (rightfully so) as these series are, kinda disappointed nobody else has so much as mentioned it from what I've seen.
Custom Robo is another. It got a sequel, so some people must like it, but I never hear anyone talk about it. I think it'd be fun to discuss all the different builds we like to use and against what and on which stage, etc... but no. Best case, I might see someone mention the name once or twice...ever.

Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster.
Those games may have been another byproduct of the '90s mascot game craze, but they had more design and heart in them than the lion's share of other games fitting that mold.
Aliens: Infestation. Manages to be a better Aliens game than Colonial Marines and a better Metroid game than Other M. Go figure, right?
Zeno Clash. First-person melee done right, plus a memorably bizarre plot and equally bizarre setting. Also, akimbo pistols made out of dinosaur bones.
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. Deus Ex meets Warhammer 40k meets Ghost in the Shell. Also features an incomprehensible plot, partly due to a slightly mangled translation from French to English. All part of the charm for me, though.

I loved single player Unreal back then but yeah, compared to Half Life it seemed old school in the way it delivered its narrative. But this is just because HL was so innovative and groundbreaking in this regard, and changed the way stories are told in games.
As to games that don't get the attention they deserve, there clearly are too many. Unreal I would not even count, since there are many other FPSes that get way less attention and are still very good or unique. See chasm: the rift, powerslave(for pcs at least it got no attention at the time),Forsaken, heck even Descent 3, and so on. Esp. in the strategy genre, most people are only aware of the big names. Only enthusiasts know about lesser known gems.

There are actually 5 games in the series. Custom Robo, V2, GX, Battle Revolution and Arena. Sometimes it's comparable to the Cyber Troopers: Virtual On series.

Well, lots of games honestly. The Desolate Hope comes to mind. A definitely amazing metroidvanaia even if it was pretty flawed.

Has Bust A Groove been mentioned? A rhythm game series on PS1. YES! Best soundtrack for a Rhythm-Action game too. Can never, ever get enough 'Aozora No Knife' and 'Natural Playboy'
