I'm surprised nobody's brought up that one Futurama episode. I've seen a few people mention that episode on Youtube, though according to Wikipedia, the film is actually based on this short film from 4 years ago:

And Hollywood needs to stop considering "videogames" only the arcade games made before the Great Crash of 1983. The original Pixels short was based on retro games, and even if less limited in scope, W-I-R is also mostly retro-nostalgia. Given that this movie is based on games up to 1982, not even Tetris is going to be featured (at least it is in the short). I'm afraid that outside those scenes with the game characters, the rest is going to be the antics of Sandler, Dinklage and a few others, portrayed as the most stereotypical aged nerds.

I would be great if they could turn this into a modern Ghostbusters, but this looks nowhere near as ambitious both on a comedy or action level. It really is just going to be aging (unfunny) nerds saving the day and reminding us "Hey, what's Pac-Man doing here" and "woah, that's Space Invaders, remember that?" and "remember how you get beat in Centipede?" instead of something resembling a comic situation or half-way exciting peril. I also thing the choice to go with a Earth vs Pixelized monsters route is to save money on doing otherwise elaborate CGI. These pixelized creatures just look like an excuse to be cheap with what appears a heavy use of bloom to hide the fact. Lastly, what makes these nerds so special? Is it some sort of half commentary that only those old farts remember these characters & games? I'd think a majority of the adult population would be aware on how to handle these creatures that for some inexplicable reason are almost certain to be invincible save for the game mechanic that kills them in their arcade titles.

These are voxels, not pixels. At any rate it's nice to see Toru Iwatani getting the mainstream limelight. It's not even the real deal, just an actor that looks like him. Probably Iwatani wouldn't have had anything to do with this film. Plus, that gag was pretty obvious.

Whether or not it's really him, people are gonna hear Iwatani's name. Like Tom Hanks isn't Walt Disney but y'know.

This film looks like nothing more than a string of video game references covered in special effects in a desperate attempt to hope nobody notices that there is neither genuine wit nor an actual story being told.

I just hope we don't get the usuall "Sappy bullshit TIME!" ending that Sandler seems to put in every film his does these days. You'd think the lazy fool would av realised we see his films for comedy, not drama and sap crap endings >.<;
Please please please stay comedy 100% of the time PIXELS. Please!

A movie with Adam Sandler as a producer and main character? Nope! I don't know why everyone is frontin the haterade on this, you know you are going to watch it anyway. Why should we waste money and time (or just time in case of piracy...ahem!) on a movie we don't want to watch? Unless we are movie critics or something.

Well if you really feel that passionately against this movie, then avoid it indeed! For me, I love video games, and there's not alot of movies about video games out there, so I'll give it a chance.
