www.hardcoregaming101.net/hebereke/hebereke.htmWestern (or at least European) gamers might remember this Sunsoft mascot and his friends from the two falling block puzzlers that were localized in English, but in Japan the gang appeared in a wide variety of genres.

One problem with Ufouria is the sound is notably off key due to the bad ntsc-pal conversion.

According to the flyer for Pair Pair Wars, the second Hebe is called "Mask Hebe". That's a real good mask. Also I'd say the voice actors were already pretty famous even before they voiced these particular characters. (Except maybe Mika Kanai, she never quite got as big as the rest.)

I love the Hebereke puzzle games. One thing about Popoitto. It's interisting that the 32Bit versions aren't identical. The PSX Version of the game is identical to the SNES version with it's graphical style, while the Saturn version's look is much closer to Popoon.
I really should check out O-Chan no Oekaki Logic too.

Ah yes, I'm no expert on voice actors so, since the first voiced game was from 1993, I thought that in the early 90s Wakamoto et al. were only at the beginning of their careers but after looking at their biographies I see that I was wrong... Still, it's funny to see these now-revered voice actors lend their voices to such weird little critters! I wanted to write about this series because I have fond memories of Ufouria: a good friend of mine had it (we had no idea at the time that it was such a rare and unknown game) and we passed many afternoons playing it and exchanging the passwords (those annoying grids with colored bullets). I too dislike the fact that it only had puzzle game sequels and hoped for another Metroidvania, and I know that the article is biased towards the first game, but what can I say, I couldn't enjoy them too much.

I don't really see how UFO or Utopia have anything to do with the title of the first game. Looks to me like it's Euphoria + Four. Either way, I should really play that racing game some day.

"UFO" just implies that they're aliens or something to that extent. It amps up the weirdness angle, even if they're not from outerspace according to the story.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that's not what they were going for, though. Nothing to me implies that there first three letters are meant to stand out. Maybe I'm missing something.

Damn you, Sunsoft America and your laziness and no interest in using Hebe, while replacing him with Aero the Acro-Bat co-created by Iguana Entertainment!
