I'm not sure if this thread is in the appropriate place, but my problem is at least partially related to the fact that I'm playing this game on an emulator. Anyway, I would like to use the level select feature in this game and apperently there's a code for this as listed on Gamefaqs and at least two Japanese websites. The problem is that's it's way too difficult to implement:
"At the title screen, press Up, Down, Left, Right, Down, Up, Right, Left, Left, Right, Down, Up, Right, Left, Up, quickly press and hold at the same time A on the 1st controller and Left, B & Select on the 2nd controller and while holding, press Down on the 1st controller. Now select continue and press Start, when "Floor 1" appears, press Up or Down to change levels."
I tried to awkwardly implement this code by assigning the input of the second controller to the numerical buttons on the right side of my keyboard, but it doesn't seem to work. What doesn't help is that the screen changes to the prologue after a couple of seconds, so I assume you have only limited time to peform the required input. My question is if someone happens to know if this code actually works, and if there is perhaps an easier method to make the code work?

Since you are using emus, to make it easier, slow down the speed so you have more time and the part about holding Left, B & Select on the 2nd controller, just bind all those buttons to one button or one keyboard key. Should make it easier. If you are going to use that cheat, remember to also add the items you need or else you will not be able to pass any stage. Enemies will be invincible and stages will be pitch dark if you don't have the appropriate items.

just bind all those buttons to one button or one keyboard key. Should make it easier. This might even be mandatory as there are still issues with detecting more than 2 key presses at a time on PCs.

Yeah, likely the 2+ keys at once, my laptop is like that.
Since you're on an emulator... why not save state at the beginning of the level? I mean, save states are stupid, but if you're accomplishing the same thing with a cheat code, why go through the hassle?
Edit: And if you're just pure cheating to select past floors you haven't beat... there are probably save states online for every floor.

Save states are not stupid, save states are the best invention emulators (and virtual console) could have.
I don't have time to die a million times on the same spot anymore.

Sorry for the late reply but your solution worked, ReyVGM. Thank you very much! In fact, I managed to beat the game. It has been haunting me ever since I started my "every RPG on the Famicom/FDS ever made" playthrough. It could be addicting at times but also quite annoying. I do wonder how those poor Japanese kids who owned a Famicom in 1985 were supposed to ever figure out how to get some of these treasures, though. Like, some of the solutions are just straight up impossible to come up with on your own, like pressing up, right, down, left 3x times in a row. Who would ever bother to try that? I heard the original arcade release was designed so that the arcade community could figure it out together, but I can't see that quite working for Famicom owners. It's just baffling to me. Fun fact: the creator of Druaga was inspired by a scene from ET in which the characters were apperently playing Dungeons and Dragons. Yeah, likely the 2+ keys at once, my laptop is like that. I wanted to beat the game in the same way someone could have beaten it in the 80's. Despite playing the game on an emulator, I wanted to keep the experience as authentic as possible. ....yeah, I'm weird.

Well back then people figured out things through word of mouth and magazines.
I've never really liked Tower of Druaga (or any of its sequels/prequels), but the Turbografx-16 remake is really good.

I’ve played The Quest of Ki and it’s full of evil design. I played it all the way through to the last stage... Where I picked a wrong treasure box and got sent to the beginning. Didn’t feel like doing it again.
