I liked how the Balloon Kid music and sounds didn't get changed for Hello Kitty World (and sound very reminiscent of Dr. Mario.)

I still think this is one of my favorite of Nintendo's early NES/FC stuff... mainly 'cause it's still Joust.
A thing to note about the Tetris DS appearances... one of the levels on Marathon mode is themed around Balloon Fight, and has an arrangement of Balloon Trip as its BGM. There's also the added Touch mode, where you got a tower of tetriminos with a cage full of balloons at the top that you have to bring down by moving and rotating pieces around to clear off lines. Said mode is also themed around Balloon Fight, and it also has Balloon Trip as its BGM, although in this case it's the original version.

There was also an unlicensed version in 6 in 1, which was Bible-related.

the movement was smooth and precise like Balloon Fight on the same system. Hardly. It's noticeably choppier. No disrespect to the dead.

After reading that article, now it makes sense why the Japanese versions of the three Williams/Atari ports look a lot like early Famicom games, and why the three have the 1983 copyrights. I wonder if Iwata was also involved with the other two. What I now wanna know, though, is why NES/FC Defender II and NES Punch-Out!! share some music. I'm guessing that, due to the port being meant for the early days of the Famicom, the music was first composed for that one, and later re-used on Punch-Out after the port was shelved.

Yukio Kaneoka composed for both arcade and nes punch-out as well as Defender 2 and nes Joust. Dunno what to make of that, exactly, but he's the common thread here save any known involvement with Balloon Fight. Here's an interview with him
