After watching it a second time, I can see how someone wouldn't like it. Max is very subdued. I know that the story isn't necessarily about him, but I can't see the Mel Gibson Max acting in the same way Tom Hardy does. Which is a shame because I really enjoy Tom Hardy. The story is lacking at times as well. It's basically Waterworld in the desert.

Belatedly: may I ask why? Yeah, not liking Fury Road "at all" is a bit strange considering it's easily the best action movie of the 2010s. Whoa, someone obviously forgot The King of Fighters came out in 2010.

I honestly never felt that Max was subdued; to me he and Furiosa are on a par, both have specific flaws and abilities and in the end they complement each other, not unlike Captain America - Winter Soldier in which while the Black Widow is much more than a supporting character she never actually steals the spotlight. As for "best action movie", I still can't decide if The Raid is better, but considering they have nothing in common other than being action movies I guess they can share the first place for the time being.

But that kind of stuff does not an entertaining movie make. People can bang on and on about that kind of thing all day long. But the first time you'll never think about it. And if you didn't enjoy the first time then you won't care to look deeper into it.

Belatedly: may I ask why? Just didn't find it very interesting. Wasn't invested in Max's struggle, let alone Furiosa's. The action sequences were big, and I could see how other people would find them impressive, but they just didn't do anything for me. It's hard to describe. I know a lot of people love Fury Road and hold it in very high regard, but it just didn't strike me as being remarkable at all.

Looks like Max Landis is making a Pepe LePew movie. I know a lot of people like Max Landis, but I never could give the guy a chance when people recommend his videos because he just seems like a nepotism success story.

he just seems like a nepotism success story. Which is appropriate, considering his father John Landis is an example of how cronyism can absolve you of any personal responsibility and culpability.

I think people are too hard on Max Landis, he was pretty amusing in the videos he did with Red Letter Media.
Granted this is coming from a guy who has never seen any of the movies he wrote, this isn't a defense of his work, just the man himself, he seems like one of those guys that are so easy to bash it kind of makes me reflectively defensive.

I'm closing this thread since having two movie threads is really confusing!
