This was one of my most anticipated titles for the Wii, but it has been getting mixed responses - I've heard of some emulation issues, like missing "hit flashes," delayed music, and distracting load times, and that none of the control options work very well, neither on the GC nor the Wii controllers.
Who here has this game yet? What do you think?

I've heard the only problem with the controls is lack of d-pad/arcade stick compadibility. The other issues exist it's true but that's because it's not SNKs child anymore, it's been taken away by child services and put in a dodgy foster home. What I'm saying here is..Playmore should be shoot for a less then perfect port Seriously though I'd say it's about as arcade perfect as an emulator except for the few snags.

I'm personally getting it in the coming weeks. I'll give you my evaluation when I get it. Also, keep in mind that it sells for only $40 USD and that it's a steal of a price for 7 Metal Slug games. As far as the arcade stick issue, I have an arcade stick with an analogue/digital switch button so I don't think it'll have issues (please don't have issues, please don't have issues, please don't have issues, c'mon I'm beggin' here!).

I haven't played the Wii version but the controls don't sound too appetizing. The lack of digital control sounds like it'd really hurt it, I can't stand using an analog stick for 2D games. I'd stick with the upcoming (in theory) PS2 version.

Wii Controls on Metal slug sound like a lesson in wrist punishment.
Espcally when Metal Slug 3 goes all ape shit on you in that last level.

What I'm saying here is..Playmore should be shoot for a less then perfect port Playmore didn't do the porting. SNK Playmore actually handed the Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology to Terminal Reality. In the Gamespot "On the Spot" interview, the person who was involved with the game didn't even know about the classic controller. I doubt that Terminal Reality knows much about shmups and 2D arcade style games. Their idea of an "arcade" control setup is holding the wii remote like a joystick and moving it with joystick style motions. They didn't even include d-pad support for the GCN controller. Playmore messed up big time by handing MSA Wii to Terminal Reality.

I would really like to know who are the people that take dumbass decisions like allowing you to have every kind of controller configurations EXCEPT using the damned crosspad.

I'd say it's a must buy on the Wii as long as you have a GC controller. Not surprisingly, the analog control works great on it (I still feel GC controller has the best analog stick of this generation, it's one thing that feels almost SNK-like in its responsiveness).
As far as it not supporting the GC directional pad goes, have you guys ever actually used the GC directional pad for character movement? I don't nessecarily think it was intentional that they didn't implement in-game play control on it, but I sure as hell don't miss the idea. Maybe it was intentional, I mean Terminal Reality is typically a pretty successful developer, specializing in fast paced (albeit 3D) action games.
Also as someone said earlier, $39.99. That's worth it for Metal Slug 3 by itself, yet it has the entire Neo Geo series plus Metal Slug 6 on it.

The GC d-pad is pretty useless, but without digital support, that means that neither digital (i.e. most) joysticks won't work, and neither will the Hori pad. While I guess it could still be playable with the analog pad, it's one of those decisions that kinda ruins the whole thing in principle. One shouldn't have to restyle the way they like to play their games because the developer is too lazy to think straight.

It took me a couple minutes last night to get a handle on the GC controls, but after that it was smooth sailing. It was great to play MS X and 6 for the first time.

I hated getting used to the Analog stick with REmake on the Gamecube, but I dealt with it. I'd say the Wii version, but quite frankly, the PS2 version sounds much better. I just wish they'd released the other damn ports at the same time as the Wii version.

Handing it to Terminal was probably not the best decision then, I still blame Playmore I mean I love Terminal but they haven't really done much 2d anythings.

Hm, well, at the very least, I'll wait until they release the PS2 version to see how it turns out. Both the PS2 and PSP versions are supposed to include Metal Slug 6, right?
