The Tasmanian Sword transformation always felt like it was kind of a cheat, as it was never documented anywhere and you need to use the second controller to pull it off (not sure how it works in the GG version). I certainly never knew about it when I was a kid. I do remember having a hell of a time beating the last boss, as I had to play as Hawk Man.

It originally being a debug thing seems reasonable, but on GG it's easier to discover and pull off. You just need to have the sword, then jump and press attack as you're falling. Maybe the devs changed their mind about it while making that version.

That's interesting about the Tasmanian Sword. I found that sword but never bothered to grind up to buy it. It would have been nice to beat the boss as something besides Hawk-man, but for my first playthrough I wanted to do everything as intended. That's the same reason I didn't use the broken Hades armor.

I just beat Wonder Boy in Monster World a few minutes ago. I think this one is actually my new favorite, barely beating Dragon's Trap. WBiMW really feels like a better version of Wonder Boy in Monster Land, with lots of subtle nods to previous games in the series. The game still had a smallish feel, but it felt bigger than Dragon's Trap, which felt tiny. The magic system was probably the best so far and the world variety was nice. I thought I would miss the transformations of Dragon's Trap but I really didn't. The little partners were a nice, cute addition, though they certainly didn't feel like a replacement for the transformations, and I kinda wish they didn't disappear if you sleep at an inn. Going back to get them again can be a bit of a pain. Also, does the little fairy in the first town actually do damage to enemies when she bops them, or does she just give hearts? I still don't think the series knows how to make interesting boss fights yet, but these were probably the best so far aside from Monster Lair. However, I don't think Monster Land's were bad, and were certainly better than Dragon's Trap's. That said, the penultimate boss was cool and a nice homage to the original Wonder Boy, though the actual final boss was just a lame Mother Brain scenario, IMO. The game has a lot of wonderful sprites and a couple of good tracks, and it's full of nice secrets to find. Onward to Monster World IV.
