After the last derailment here, I think it's about time we have a Scooby-Doo thread. It really is one of the few franchises that have gotten better and better over time. Mostly thanks to the movies that started with Zombie Island. In fact I'm just watching the Witch's Ghost right now, done by the same studio. (TIM CURRY!!) I really love that style that looks part anime and part Tales from the Crypt - Animated. Though, the later movies don't look bad either. In fact, the latest few are downright amazing in terms of animation and the openings most of them hav,e are incredibly creative. Also the fanservice they put in, is just great, just watch Mask of the Blue-Falcon. Hardly any HB show that doesn't get a little nod there. Also in this movie, the actor who plays the Blue Falcon's TDK-expy is actually voiced by Diedrich Bader, probably the most silly Batman next to Adam West.^^ The level of self-awareness is just incredible. I think I don't need to start how much I like Mystery Inc. The implementation of that overaching plotlines gave it the feel of early Buffy. Considering how Buffy was also partly influenced by Scooby-Doo, we just went full-circle here^^ And Crybaby Clown really reminded me of a Batman villain As for Be Cool... I was sceptic at first, like probably everyone, but damn! This show is funny as hell. Sure it's completely different in tone than most before (as was Mystery Inc), but really, in which other direction should they have headed to? Doing something like What's new, Scooby-Doo? again? Nah, that series' most defining characteristic was that it didn't really had any defining characterics. Lastly, I'd really wish we would get a great Scooby videogame again. Scooby Doo Mystery for Mega Drive was awesome, but the password system makes playing on real hw a bit annoying. Still it perfectly captured the style and atmosphere, while also looking like a forgotten Lucas Arts adventure

You know, I always plan on rewatching old school Scooby Doo, cause I remember watching it a lot as a kid - I was totes into horror and supernatural stuff, and even though it always turns out that's not the case in Scooby Doo, I still liked watching it. But then I never do. Heard good things about the more recent cartoons, too.
Scooby Doo Mystery was pretty decent, clearly modeling itself off the Lucasarts Adventures of the time. I really wished it'd been longer, cause the two cases are barely an apetizer.

The worst thing about Be Cool Scooy-Doo! is the Scooby fans or people who judge it solely by an few screenshots and assume it is like Family Guy and thus refuse to watch it, it's not exactly my favorite art style either but come on!
Really, i am tired of people judging the series, particularly because many people never even give it an chance, or if they do, it is some of the first episodes like the one with the old man with an simple name that insists everyone says wrongly, you know, the worst episodes before they actually grew the beard so to speak.
The people who also hate it because it's not Mystery Incorporated also annoy me, just because it was good does not mean every following show should copy it and never try anything else.

Oh man! The things I can talk about here. I used to like Scooby-doo in my childhood but like many cartoons from my youth (mostly the reruns of stuff from my parents days,) I grew to hate it. Mainly due to the quality in the animation and stories of the shows. But other things.....
I don't quite understand why we keep getting more animated movies of SD for at least two decades and with famous story arcs from DC and Marvel comics. Disney was smart enough to stop releasing straight to DVD or video sequels to their cartoon movies.
DerZocker said eariler....
"Sure it's completely different in tone than most before (as was Mystery Inc), but really, in which other direction should they have headed to?"
My response, Maybe they should do murder mysteries..
or go after other horror icons besides the usual old ones like Dracula or Frankenstein...
I probably should start it now but you can't do a Scooby-doo thread without mentioning that abomination of a cousin or nephew Scrappy-doo. By far one of the worst cartoon characters ever made and my most hated. He's just so damn annoying whether it's his catch phrase, his need to get and act tough or how he thinks his uncle is brave and strong. Thankfully his presence isn't around as much as he used to be. Seems they realized it years ago....
Also with Scrappy the way he is you wonder why this never happened to him...
Finally, if I wanted to watch a cartoon dog who is a huge scared y cat and helped others it would be named Courage the Cowardly Dog.

as a skeptic, it's honestly disheartening that the one mainstream icon teaching youngsters that monsters aren't real basically said "fuck it, they're real!". it'd also be dishonest of me to say it wasn't until then that it actually became watchable. i dont necessarily believe it's a direct correlation, but jeezus was vintage scooby tedious (but so then was 99.999~ of hanna-barbara's output)
but it did give the world this gem:
Anyways me and my friends get no respect what does scooby doo that we neglect we be puttin all our foes in check

Scooby Doo is a franchise I've been meaning to revisit for years, I've heard good things about Mystery Inc and I remember enjoying the original 60's cartoon as a kid, as well the later movies like Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost (though I didn't care much for the one with the aliens and the one where they go into cyberspace)
I also remember enjoying the 80's era movies Boo Brothers and the Ghoul School, I wonder if those hold up?

Vincent Price is probably the only reason to watch The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo.

I don't know how good is the new Scooby-Doo show but the art style is a huge turn off. How did they messed it up so ugly? The art style of previous, modern Scooby Doo shows was fine.

I really need to get around to finishing up Mystery Incorportated, since I hear that's actually a really great show. I'd really rank it among the few Scooby Doo related things that are actually worth watching, and I'd put it next to Zombie Island. Zombie Island is pretty great, so if you haven't seen that, you totally should. Did anybody read Scooby Apocolypse yet, by the way? Not... totally sure how to feel about it, given it looks like, you know, this... I mean, there's that and then there's the Mad Max inspired Wacky Raceland... I mean. I'm all for taking old, unused franchises like that and doing new, interesting things with them, I just think there's kind of a limit to how "hardcore" you can attempt to make something like that. I dunno.

As a kid I remember watching a whole lot of Scooby-Doo, everything from the original show to 13 Ghosts, and even a Pup Named Scooby-Doo. Gotta say my favorite Scooby movie bar none has to be The Reluctant Werewolf.
