What's the live action Zeiram movie like? The monster caught my attention. And you I'm just as curious about the OVA and now this second game. There are two, actually. They have nothing to do with the OVA, only sharing the two titular characters, with bounty hunter Iria tracking down Zeiram on earth (and Iria is even out of the action for the large middle part of the first one). They are ok-ish japanese pulp movies, but outside of the cool Zeiram designs nothing all too special. Though, honestly I don't think the OVA is all that remarkable either, and that one seems to be liked by quite some people here.

Due to how weird anime distribution was in the west, especially with how insanely cult episode distribution was, a lot of otherwise easily forgotten titles have been latched onto the collective nostalgia of fans from that era. There was little comparison for a lot of titles at the time because of how hard most anime was to get a hold of.

The very worst thing about most non-movie budget action anime is that there isn't a whole lot of actual animated action in them. Or, they pad out the action with LOTS AND LOTS of talking about what they're going to do a la Shonen Jump (entire episodes of One Piece and DBZ can go by with more grandstanding and boasting than actual fighting). Iria largely avoids those anime traps by delivering well staged, (mostly) fully animated action, and quite frequently at that. Which makes it a cut above as an action anime because it actually delivers on the action it advertises. Most anime fans look down on it because the story won't blow your mind or anything like that (it's about as thin as you can get), but if you're an action connoisseur, Iria really deserves a chance. These days, you pretty much can only get a quality action fix by Masahiro Ando or Studio Trigger. I've seen one of the Zieram movies, and it's OK, but they're a bit Sentai-ish at times and that's not quite my thing (I prefer my action a little harder).

Iria the OVA is awesome, futuristic action done right, told in a nice and compact six episodes.
I've never seen the live action movies.

Nostalgia? I watched it for the first time recently and loved it. Eh, it's okay. Just a solid adventure thing with a neat style, but not much else.

Could you recommend some titles with similar style/atmosphere?

Could you recommend some titles with similar style/atmosphere? Kinda being a little loose since not all of these are Sci-Fi, but Riding Bean Bubblegum Crisis (the original) Dominion Tank Police The Dark Myth possibly the OVA version of The Guyver They Were 11 for something that's actually in the futuristic/sci-fi genre. Possibly LilyCAT for something else that clearly has inspiration from the Alien franchise, but I haven't seen that in forever... it might be bad.

Lilycat is really slow, but interesting.
I'd double on Dominion Take Police, that's good stuff right there.

HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT I REMEMBER THIS ANIME. I also agree with what toei said. Me too, on both counts. I think that the game still -looks- appealing. I may give it a try someday. It would have been nice to have had a little summary of the anime's plot and how it relates to the game. Does it expand upon the source material?

What's the live action Zeiram movie like? The monster caught my attention. And you I'm just as curious about the OVA and now this second game. It's a pretty neat think. Basically, Japan bio-engineered their own Terminator. But that is too basic. It's a mix of action, horror and humor. We have a female hero, that even fights Zeiram in hand to hand combat and two sidekicks, which are very reminiscent of Tahei and Matashichi/R2D2 and C3PO. It features some amazing and grotesque costums, thrilling moments and a lot of laughter. The characters and the film as a whole is a lot more charming than you'd expect it to be. Sequel is more of the same. The anime on the other hand is more generic, lacking the cool costums and the sidekicks of the movies. Probably because Keita Amemiya didn't direct it himself. And I really cannot believe this article does not mention Keita Amemiya. Creator of this franchise and art designer of Hagane, Treasures of Rudra, Onimusha 2/3 and Shin Megami Tensei IV and GARO and Tweeny Witches and Kamen Rider and more!!! How do you not mention Keita Amemiya in an article about Iria/Zeiram. I don't really like this article

Generic? What. Whatever, man.

The random shift to all italics looks real good.
