You might not know it if you haven’t been hanging around the PCEFX forums, but following our translation of the PC-FX's only shooter Zeroigar, elmer and I have been hard at work over the past year on simultaneously translating two PC Engine CD ARPGs by Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Xanadu and The Legend of Xanadu II.Well, there is exciting news: we're essentially finished. All of the hacking, translating, editing and graphical work is done, and it looks great. There is one more big task that remains, however, and that’s making an English dub for the voiced parts (Japanese versions on youtube here and here). Would you be interested in lending your voice to these fantastic games? Do you know anyone else who might be? Please have a look at our character list page, where you'll find everything you need to audition. There are roughly fifty parts to fill, some large, some small, and we’re going to need a broad cast of actors to pull this off. When we do, though, it’s going to be something really special. Links: The character listAn introduction to The Legend of XanaduScreenshots of the translationsA basic intro for non-gamers, to show to your Great Aunt Formaldehyde to convince her to auditionThe dub-scripts are 100% finished, and the audio project files are completely set up with BGM, sound effects, and every clip-position marked. Literally the only thing left to do is copy and paste a few hundred clips after people get them recorded and sent to us. The initial casting period will end May 19th. Feel free to ask any questions. We hope to hear from you soon! (Oh, and subtitles are impossible due to hardware resource constraints, by the way. The tentative plan is to also release the scripts in case people don’t want to use the dub.)

Sounds fun. Game looks great, too. I have a pretty high pitched voice, so I'd probably try for Lykos. Could arguably do a female voice, too(I've passed for one before).

I'm really excited for this project to be finished. Thanks for all of the hard work you have put into this project.

Are you the same guys that were translating these games like 4 or 5 years ago?

Are you the same guys that were translating these games like 4 or 5 years ago? SamIAm has been working on the LoX2 translation since 2011, but the programmer that he was working with was unable to successfully get the translation of the text that had been extracted working properly in the game, and the project went comatose. After we finished the Zeroigar translation project in 2015 (another project that the same programmer had bailed-out on), we re-started the LoX2 translation from scratch, and then expanded the new project to include the LoX1 game as well. The other programmer was very generous in passing along all the old project materials, but there wasn't much that was helpful. I wrote some custom tools to merge the previous LoX2 translations into the new script files, and that did save SamIAm a bunch of time, I believe. So SamIAm is the same guy, "yes", and the project spent a number of years in a semi-dead state.

I wouldn't mind a tryout, but I'd be a terrible actor, even if I can do a few different voices. Mel Blanc I am not (plus my voice somehow sounds higher in recordings than in real life).
I'll definitely hope this pans out, though. This all sounds great and I hope there'll be some good results. Godspeed, man, godspeed.

And since the last time they said the translation was almost done, I didn't want to get my hopes up if this was a new translation.

And since the last time they said the translation was almost done, I didn't want to get my hopes up if this was a new translation. I remember you asking for the cutscene scripts on romhacking.net back at the end of 2015 in the early days of the project reboot. Things slowed-down dramatically in the middle of last-year because of real-life issues, which was a bit frustrating, but allowed time for a lot of slow polishing of the translation. We're all-done now, and just need to get the dub done (test dubs have already been inserted, and are working in-game).

I sent in a bunch of auditions. Was a lot of fun. I don't think my voice would work for the females, as an afterthought.

I would love to audition! I have been voice acting since the 32-bit days. I've contributed to such amazing titles as Shining Force 3, Zone of Enders, and Chaos Wars. Thanks for your interest! The auditions are open for new submissions until May 19th, and we're actually rather backed-up on giving feedback to the current candidates, so we're going to keep on working with everyone to give feedback and accept revisions until the end of the month before making any final decisions. So you've still got time. The first post in the thread has links to our website with the character descriptions, pronunciation guide, technical requirements, etc. Good luck!
