Why did I first read the title as "Breast Busters"?

1. Those names are amazing.
2. I'd like to play the second game, it looks fun. I was a big fan of House of the Dead back in the day. It's also an example of an interesting phenomenon, game companies reviving dead properties as a way to produce a "clone" of a popular game with an added air of legitimacy. In other words, they may not have made this sequel ten years later if it weren't for HotD, even if the original had a similar concept long before HotD, much like Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (the 2001 game) might not exist without Resident Evil's success, though Resident Evil itself was influence by the original Alone in the Dark.

Seeing games like these makes me lament the lack of USB light gun peripherals.

Seeing games like these makes me lament the lack of USB light gun peripherals. I'd buy that in an instant (although this particular game isn't emulated). There's a wealth of light gun games out there that can't be properly enjoyed with current technology.

I have a question! I clearly remember when seeing the first game in the arcade as a little kid that it had a jump scare: during the attract mode, when it listed the various weapons and bonuses, suddenly a screaming zombie appeared and covered the whole screen. However in the MAME emulated version that I used for the article this bit is not present, and MAME does not list variants of this particular ROM. How is this possible?

You talking about this (spooky jumpscare warning)? Neo Geo games has its own regional difference between BIOSes, try booting it on World version this video seems to use.

There's a wealth of light gun games out there that can't be properly enjoyed with current technology. There are some for PC's, but they're like $100 a piece. Couldn't say with any certainty, but perhaps USB-(insert favorite consoles gamepads here) would accept light guns that way, but you'd need to be able to convince the PC that it has one plugged into it. Probably not as issue with M.A.M.E. Otherwise, most emulators seem to accept a mouse with an on-screen target, if that's acceptable enough for you(same for the PC versions of the Virtua Cop and House of the Dead series, if you can get those running on yours).

Some of the up close zombie sprites remind me of Sammy's Zombie Raid...makes sense I guess, both being rail shooter zombie games.

It took me a while to realize the above screenshot doesn't feature a zombie getting shot in the crotch.

Yeah, you can use gamepads or a mouse with emulators, but it's not worth playing that way in my opinion. What I'd like is to have two actual light guns to go through these games co-op. I'll look into the peripherals and see what people say, if they seem to be any good I might buy some one day, when I have money to burn.

I'm not suggesting either of these options, but since I was looking up the matter of light guns on the PC a few weeks ago... Hypothetically, a bluetooth capable computer could use a Wiimote as a sort-of light gun in any game that operates with the mouse. Can't vouch for the quality, myself, since I don't have a bluetooth receiver on my PC. There are guides out there with more information. This fellow was able to mod a Wiimote and a Wii Zapper (essentially gutted and used as a trigger and shell) as a cheap light gun, but you need to have soldering equipment and special parts. I just thought it was neat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgnnMQLC3Vs

Yes it's exactly what I was talking about! Didn't know about the regional differences. Another curious thing I've noticed of this game: most of the male zombies have muscular bodies and chiseled features, while the female ones are all identical hags that look like Iron Maiden's Eddie The Head. Basically it's the inversion of the recent trope where the female version of a monster is always a hot lady

Of course, disturbing is a good thing in horror.

Don't play any recent Shantae games then.
