Let me preface this by saying I have not bought a game system in nearly 12 years. In fact, for the last 12 years I would say 95% of my game playing has been via the SNES. I don't hate "modern" games. I just never cared enough to buy the systems and thus, I missed out on most games released in the past 12-15 years. And honestly, I never thought I would ever buy another system ever again. The Nintendo Switch recently changed all of that. I've had it for two weeks now and have devoted around 15 hours into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I am freaking blown away. I've only played it portable thus far and it's the only Switch game I've allowed myself to play so far. But I have also bought six other Switch games in the past two weeks. The Sinister Six being: 1. Doom ($53) 2. Rayman Legends ($25) 3. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 ($40) 4. Lego City Undercover ($20) 5. Resident Evil Revelations Collection ($30) 6. Axiom Verge ($27) My first game, Breath of the Wild, was an early Christmas gift given by my brother, and my girlfriend is getting me Super Mario Odyssey for Christmas. And I haven't even explored the eShop yet, but I know I want to eventually buy titles such as The Mummy Demastered, Golf Story, Stardew Valley, Slain: Back From Hell, the Metal Slug trilogy, all those other Neo Geo classics, Blaster Master Zero, Sonic Mania and the list goes on and on. God damn, not enough time and not enough money. I haven't been this excited about game playing and collecting in a long time. I still love my SNES but the Switch is fast moving into second place for favorite consoles, knocking the Sega Saturn off its perch. With 2018 looking very promising and depending on how the following years go, it's even possible that the Switch may bump the SNES to #2. I love the portability of the thing. It's allowed me to do simple things like playing in bed while the GF reads a book. It's just different from both of you doing the same activities on the couch. It doesn't have the same feel or zest. Kind of hard/weird to explain, but I'm sure you get my drift. I plan to travel more next year and can definitely see where playing this on the plane or back at the hotel at the end of a long exhausting day would be extremely appealing. Honestly, if the Switch were SOLELY a "play it on the TV" kind of console, I might not have been so keen on picking one up. As I get older, life gets busier and busier and I find it harder to plop myself down in front of a TV to play video games for a good length of time. The Switch somehow makes me WANT to play. I can jump right back in with the Sleep Mode and play a Breath of the Wild in bed for 15 minutes before sleeping. It's so convenient and Nintendo has truly outdone themselves this time. Anyway, I could keep rambling on but Hyrule calls. For anyone who wants to read my way too long Switch story, you can check it out here: rvgfanatic.com/wordpress/index.php/switch/If anyone has recently "made the switch" (sorry) over to the Switch as well, I'd love to read about your own experience as well! Also, I'd like to hear from those who still don't have a Switch or those on the fence. What's stopping you from getting one? Do you plan to get one eventually? Take it from a stubborn "one system man" of nearly 12 years, the Switch is more than cheat-worthy

The Switch is amazing. It's the happiest I've been with a Nintendo console in something like two decades. It's the best things about the Wii U and the best things about the Vita without any of the crap that held those two systems back.

All games should be available on every system in the market at a given time. Games start their life on PC's at first, so c'mon. Portability? Mobiles could do the duty, the technology is a bit lacking still and there's some licensing involved--all of that shouldn't be so hard to accomplish, if video games industry wouldn't be one of the biggest goddamn 'teasers' of all time.

I love how refreshing the platform is in relation to rivals out now and last gen. It basically used the backdoors to the industry while PS4 and X1 power-battle with specs and media control the Switch's library is already taking after the 3DS and Vita and people can finally enjoy the latest handheld-centric franchises (like Pokemon) on a TV. It's library is also taking indies on the frontlines, Nintendo been paying attention to them and regularly promoting these type of games instead of just using them as free game filler like Sony does.
Currently I'm hooked on Spelunker Party, of all games. I also enjoy a round of Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mania... I just don't have BotW on Switch. I have it on Wii U but I kinda regret not waiting because I think people found it to be special as a launch game. Oh well, I'll get it if it ever discounts as a Selects title and grab the DLC that way.

It really is amazing how much the Japanese games industry has had a revival over the last few years, especially in the case of Nintendo considering how bleak things were looking during the Wii U era.
Meanwhile the western industry seems like it's getting closer and closer to a 1983 style crash with all the shenanigans EA and Activision have been pulling, I mean people have been talking about "another crash" for ages, but all this lootbox garbage seems like it might finally be what does it and I predict the Switch is only going to grow in popularity even more over the next few years as people get fed up with that shit.

I bought a Switch primarily for couch multiplayer gaming. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been an absolute blast, of course, but it was the couch multiplayer gameplay showcased in the original Switch reveal video that got me interested. Rayman Legends is a great couch multiplayer game, and so is the (underrated) Super Bomberman R, but I still feel like the Switch needs more to really deliver on the impressions from that reveal video. Mind you, the Switch hasn't even been out for a year yet, so I think Nintendo will deliver.

The Switch was a bit of a gamble for me. I really didn't like the 3DS or it's library all that much, and even sold mine only to buy it again a few years later. The only thing I really liked on the system was the SEGA 3D Classics, but I had this constant feeling that everything I was playing on the system, would be better suited on another platform. Stuff like Monster Hunter literally hurt my hands on the handheld, and I really despised the screens on the thing. I'm not at all into RPG's, so apart from a couple I liked (the Project X Zone games and Fire Emblem), the rest of it's library was pretty much lost on me. It's all rather curious too, since I also bought a Wii U, and I (still) love that damned thing.
The Switch is gold though. I've not had a single pang of buyer's regret. It's already got more racing games on it than the 3DS ever had (something I kinda look for), and the boon of having a glut of Indie games, whilst also having a really steady stream of bigger titles just gets me. If I'm at home, I'll play it hooked up to my monitor. Sometimes I'll play it in bed. But knowing I can take it anywhere is awesome, and it serves me well on my trip's up to see the family interstate.
I can only see the Switch going from strength to strength, too. Almost everything I'm interested in is being ported to the damned thing anyways, if it hasn't already. It's just a fun system to use. There's no in-your-face updates that take an age to download and stop you from getting into a game you just purchased, and the GUI is simple, uncluttered and not full of ads like Xbox and Playstation have been the last couple of generations. It's a system purely for gaming, and I respect that.
It's been a killer first few months with the Nintendo Switch, and I'm super excited about what's in store for it.

I really do like the concept of the console. Because sometimes I just want to play stuff on the small screen anywhere I want, but sometimes I feel the world of a game would be so much more immersive on the big screen. And with the Switch you can just... switch. But like always with Nintendo consoles, there are just so little games I'm interested in, and those are also on PS4.

It's already got more racing games on it than the 3DS ever had 3DS especially needs more racing games like 80's OVERDRIVE, which looks like it might be fun and suits handheld set-up well.

I love my Switch overall, but I do find the OS the staidest since the DS. It doesn't have for instance the fun extra Channels that the Wii had, WaraWara Plaza like the Wii U (really loved that), the music visualizers like the DSi and 3DS, or even music in the eShop. The little loading jingle wasn't even there originally! One of my favorite "fun" features was the way your Mii in the 3DS browser will make little comments if it's a holiday or if you haven't used it in a while. There still isn't even a play log even though that info is tracked. The OS gets the job done, but it's very boring. Nintendo has a way of aping of Apple to a certain degree, and they've gone full tilt towards the less fun post-Forstall Apple; the guy got a lot of flak for promoting skeuomorphism (digital recreations of real objects more or less), but he also was seemingly the only person at the company that wanted to embrace whimsy.
The main positive of the hardware itself is the fuller realization of the Wii U's offscreen play, but that comes at the expense of have up to 2 screens which is a real loss. Third party games didn't always make great or even well programmed use of it e.g. the Lego games would use it as a character switcher and the scrolling was awful, but Nintendo's own games made much better use of it. Nintendo Land on it's own was an amazing showcase for the possibilities. Donkey Kong's Crash Course on it's own is one of my favorite games and I still boot it up from time to time. It was fun seeing people's comments because it was so difficult. Stuff like seeing people's shock at seemingly finishing and then getting a second board, then a third and a fourth.

Personally I would rather have a barebones UI that's as fast as the Switch, than the ones on the 3DS and Wii/WiiU.
I believe the reason they don't add more bells and whistles is simply because it would slow down the menu. If by 2018, with the advent of Nintendo's online service, they don't add more stuff to the UI, then it will stay like that. I know for sure they will implement skins eventually though.
However, expect a nice upgrade to the UI when the Switch gets its inevitable upgrade (like DSi, New 3DS) sometime in 2019.

Yeah, absolutely. I know all that stuff was pretty cool on the Wii/U/3DS, but I personally never used even half of it, though I'm sure many others did. I like the stripped back interface. It's fast, it's intuitive and it just lets you get on with gaming. Also, speaking of upgrades, it'll be interesting to see how they deal them out on the Switch. You'd only really have to upgrade the screen/unit, so some tiered upgrades could be a kinda neat. A cost-effective base screen pack. A mid-tier unit and joy-cons (with the inevitable d-pad). A full pack with new a unit, joy-cons and dock. I could see that totally working, if only for myself
