It isn't really that buggy, but the two big ones that initially slipped in did color my feelings. There was also a spot where I crouched through the floor, but that actually helped a little. Coins will also float up and offscreen in a few specific spots, but that's rare enough to be not a big deal.
With equipment, all the progression necessary effects work fine although one could use some tweaking. It's the optional upgrades that seem a little iffy at times. One in particular seems totally broken, and another seems totally useless if it is working as intended.

I think it's needless to say that you can't claim anything anymore for this thread as it is 2019 all over the world, so the 'competition' as it were, is officially over. Look forward to the end results in ~2 weeks.
Now the question is, of course, is there enough interest for 2019? I'd say there probably is, but I think it would be better if it were a bit more casual. Maybe in addition to the 'competition' aspect we can do something like assign a rating to each game.
At any rate, thanks all for participating!

Looking forward to participating in next year's thread. I have 2 games going already in 2019 but they're longer ones. It will be a bit before I have something to log unless i throw in some other stuff.

Was anyone planning on running this for this year? I can since I obviously have the time.

Was anyone planning on running this for this year? I can since I obviously have the time. I was open to it, but wasn't planning on running it per se or anything. If you do run it, I could help out. And we can use last year's file as a basis, since zerker did a great job setting that up.

Thanks for offering to help!

So, I will run the 2019 version of this thread. Are there any particular rule changes that interest people? I personally only want one change.
- Fighting games are back to 8 characters or all if the total is under 8 for arcade modes. Dedicated single player modes can also be used instead.
Other miscellaneous changes:
- I would like to keep the system listing with one small change. If the game is being emulated on a different platform, please list both.
- A rating out of 5 is encouraged.
- Listing your completion time is encouraged if the game keeps track.
- I'm not counting my own completions for any kind of competitive purposes.

Yeah, I noticed people basically stopped claiming fighters at all because the requirements were so high.
Personally I'm not interested in numerical ratings, but encouraging more discussion of the games would be good. Of course, I don't mind if others give ratings. I don't think emulation matters, since save states are banned.
Here's a proposition: could we count replays separately? Have a main list for games people are playing for the first time, and another for replays? For example, I just beat Zillion 2 on Master System for the first time. I'd say it probably took me 5-6 hours at least. But with replays you can just run through older games like this in 40 minutes.

I like this idea of separate category for replays. Maybe include NG+ in it too?
