Ah, but you can still keep going though. IDK, as long as there's also a way to 'fail' and thus being prevented from somehow reaching 2050, I guess that should count as beating it. Right, but if 'keep going' was a concern, we'd have to discount a number of recent Mario games and most Open World games. I went ahead and did the experiment: you can go bankrupt if you're bad enough at it.

Oh no, the keep going thing isn't a problem or anything.
Anyway, that's good. I guess I just never sucked that hard at it to get a game over.

PS4. Didn't realize there was a PC port of it too.

It's a huge improvement over the original, and so long as you follow a guide, not that tough to get through. The only truly unreasonable part is the final castle, though that can be mitigated somewhat by Wizard's Rings (if you're lucky). I don't think I tried staying at the "inn" in the final dungeon as a kid, either. Seemed like a trap, but it works as a great way to recharge after the long trek from the shrine in Rhone.

Yeah, the endgame was pretty hard for me too. There was one cave (with those eye enemies IIRC) that was really hard to get through as well. I did really enjoy the game though, and it's probably one of the biggest jumps from a first to a second installment in any series ever. Though I do myself really like DQI too.

After 28 long years, Dragon Warrior II is beaten! Congrats! That last long trek is a pain. I remember playing it as a kid, and I died at just about every mini-boss leading up to Malroth.

I don't think I tried staying at the "inn" in the final dungeon as a kid, either. Seemed like a trap, but it works as a great way to recharge after the long trek from the shrine in Rhone. It is a trap! If you use the Inn or the shops at the fake castle, the game makes it look like they worked, but as soon as you leave the castle or dispel the illusion, your stats and inventory return to what they were before. I finally finished getting Mega Man out of my system! Mega Man 9 (PC) Mega Man 10 (PC)Both good games, but Mega Man 9 is the better of the two. Mega Man 10 has a few great moments of brilliance, but also has some major lows, whereas Mega Man 9 remains consistently high quality throughout. Also... I marked the other Legacy Collection games as NES, SNES, and PSX since they're basically just emulated ROMs, but since 9 and 10 were 7th gen console games I've marked these two as PC since I assume they actually had to be ported. Let me know if that's not right. Rockman & Forte wasn't included in the Legacy Collection (which is lame), and the GBA port is crud, and I don't feel like emulating it, so I skipped that one. Finally, for extra credit I went through two Mega Man-y indie games: Rozenkruezstille (PC) Rozenkruezstille Freudenstachel (PC)I first played Rozenkruezstilette YEARS ago, long before it ever got an official localization and translation. Freudenstachel is the sequel, only recently localized, and that one I hadn't got around to playing yet. Both of them are some of the finest Mega Man fan games out there, with controls and gameplay that is completely accurate to how Mega Man works... you can go from Mega Man to these games and they control just like they should. Both are very good games, with the first game hewing close to the typical Mega Man formula, and the sequel having more challenging and experimental design.

Metroid Samus Returns - 3DS Simple and easy as it was, it was a really fun update to Return of Samus. Didn’t really feel that shoehorning Ridley in as the final boss was necessary though.

Heard that the emphasis on melee combat kind of ruins that one?

I thought it worked out well and it’s definitely not a necessary thing. It helps in certain situations but you could get through the game with hardly even using it. It does add some cool interactive, quick cutscenes during the boss fights. My only complaints are how easy the map makes the game and how overpowered you get. But still a fun Metroid jaunt.
