When was this site created btw? Didn't see anything on the about page. 2004 I believe.

I played in a very small server, followed a quick leveling guide, and made it to level 70 as a Hunter in around 80 hours (total time, of course). Goddamn huntard. Hahaha, hadn't heard that one in a while! I just updated my post because I realized I had been talking about 2008 all along (see the post for more details), ahaha, sorry for the mix-up!

Maybe Astro Boy GBA? Another nifty game. Hard Mode is bloody impossible. I love that game. The best thing about it (besides it playing kinda-sorta-but-almost-not-really like Gunstar Heroes) is that its actually a pretty good introduction/rundown of the Astro Boy mythos, as its storyline basically combines several manga stories into a cohesive whole.... and then makes it all part of the greater Osamu Tezuka universe. I remember actually being a little bit mad when the HG101 article at the time said these were "references only a hardcore otaku would care about." I honestly don't think Tez should be belittled like that, not unless we're also gonna say that E=MC2 is just a term only science nuts will care about. I knew very little about Tez's works at the time... I knew Astro Boy though, and I fricking squee'ed when.... well, I was about to reveal a spoiler, and a pretty major one.... well, I'll put it behind a mark: ...when you get a "bad ending" only for the freaking Phoenix/Space Firebird to show up and give you another chance... while also confirming that yes, of course robots have souls, you silly.

Ok, so ten years ago from now, around February/March of 2008, I believe that after I finished Mass Effect, Silent Hill Origins and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was what I played.
I actually thought Silent Hill Origins was ok at the time, but I understood it had a troubled development and was much better than what was initially shown, but time has soured me on it and I've never had a desire to replay it.
I also remember being a bit disappointed by Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the sequel is so much better, but I would be interested to replay that one after a decade.

I haven't been keeping this updated but it's not like I can remember exactly what I was playing a decade ago every month.
However right now is an exception, I distinctly remember what I was playing exactly a decade ago and that's Persona 3: FES.
Still the only JRPG I've ever played to completion, P3, including The Answer, took me all summer long, I started in June (maybe even late May) and didn't finish the game until August, I think it took me about two and a half months, which I played BoTW for two solid months just this year and I probably played Fallout 4 for close to two and a half months.
But Persona 3: FES still feels like one of the biggest undertakings I've ever done gamewise, I had tried my hand at a few JRPGs prior but was never able to beat them, something about the genre never really "clicked" with me until Persona 3, since I was determined to finish it as I really fell in love with the game's world and characters, especially Mitsuru Kirijo, who, I'm not gonna lie, I had a serious crush on, I wanted to max out her social link and see the story to its conclusion no matter how long it took me.
Feels really weird to think it was a full decade ago and it also feels staggeringly surreal to think I've had almost a decade to play it Persona 4 and still have yet to, but the problem is the extreme length of Persona 3 simply made me too gunshy about playing Persona 4, I don't know if I have it in me to do it again.
Because see, with something like Fallout or BoTW it's easy to play those for long periods of time given the open world nature of them, when that wanderlust kicks in it makes it easier to stick with since you're free to explore, the Persona games meanwhile follow a fairly linear and somewhat repetitive structure, go to school, go to places around town, go to the dungeon, rinse, repeat more or less.
That can certainly get tedious after a while.
But I'll probably get around to Persona 4 and Persona 5 eventually, I'd even like to replay P3, but the extreme length makes it harder to justify a replay.

I think I had just gotten my Wii for Smash Bros Brawl. Aside from that I think I was playing all those SNK compilations they were releasing for the PS2 at the time. I was getting an incredible amount of mileage out of the single player mode in stuff like...Art of Fighting 2. I also was still in grad school and it was probably the height of my social life so I think game playing was probably at a low.

July 2008 I finished Phantasy Star IV and Drakengard 2. I was also super addicted to the terrible Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE Online. I'd even like to replay P3, but the extreme length makes it harder to justify a replay. P3 Portable shaves off a good 20-30 hours by just not having to run around areas outside of Tartarus, and another 25 by not including The Answer, fwiw

So, I didn't keep this thread going but I still find it interesting, so time to revive it. First a quick summary of what I did for the remainder of 2008, well after I finally finished P3 sometime in August I think the next game I played was..... I don't know, there's a blank period in my memory between P3 and Fallout 3, it's possible I wasn't playing anything and instead just took a break from gaming for a while. However I know spent fall of 2008 mostly playing Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead. As to what I was up to in Jan 2009, right after Christmas I played Saints Row 2, followed by Fable 2. I had a lot of fun with Saints Row 2, it's one of those games I'd like to revisit for a trip down memory lane but I'm sure it's pretty dated (and too many other, newer things to play), but at least I'll always have the memories of causing chaos in a Borat style thong and flying out in the ocean to find crazy stuff like a Loch Ness monster skeleton, a pirate shipwreck and a piece of Atlantis (modern games need more crazy easter eggs like that) I actually replayed Fable 2 in the summer of 2017 and while it's like, literally the easiest game ever made, it's very good as far as atmosphere, story and the feeling of player choice goes, I had a good time with it. I also remember being a bit disappointed by Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the sequel is so much better, but I would be interested to replay that one after a decade. It's funny because I did finally replay Uncharted: Drake's Fortune recently. Sadly my opinion on the game hasn't changed, it's fine, but nothing special, 2 is where the series really took off.

2009 I really got into the 360 more as well as had just gotten a dS for Christmas. Played a bunch of co op with my brother, who was my roommate. Also dogged into some retro games when I could. Games played that I can remember were the following: Tales of Vesperia Earth Defense Force Chronic Trigger (DS version) Army of 2 Resident Evil 5 Overlord Super Smash Bros Brawl Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Borderlands Uncharted (side note, I love this series) Countdown Vampires (ugh) The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass I’m sure there were more, that’s just what I remember

2009?
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. I have 2 copies of this game, since I bought one, and a friend got me a copy as gift. Final Fantasy XIII. My ex got it for me for Christmas. Probably the one positive thing that came out of that relationship. New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Played through it once, haven't touched it since.

I don't like to go back in time because it make me miss the moments that are forever gone... But anyway - ten years ago I was playing all the Metal Gear games up to MGS2, including two first MSX games. Other than that - multiplayer matches in Unreal Tournament as always and some RPG Maker 2003 games, including Alter AILA, if I remember correctly (or maybe it was year later - dunno).

Januar 09 I raged my way through The Answer in Persona 3 FES, replayed Mystic Quest Legend (what a coincidence, since we just talked about it in the other thread), but most of the time was lost in the JP version of Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE Online.
