Compared to Double Dragon IV, a rather banal retro beat-em-up resurrection, Fight 'n Rage is an excellent arcade tribute that does almost everything right.

I'm pretty wary of modern "retro" tributes usually, but this one sounds like I'll need to check it out at some point.

I was all ears when the article was posted, but Mai tribute or not, that overtly bouncy animation of the female player char is kinda cringey. Plus the backgrounds don't seem to have much of the urban atmosphere I love about the genre, it's all rather bland otherworldish stuff where the carnage isn't especially compelling to me. (I know the game was pretty much done by one guy, I'm not complaining about the lack of high res pixelled BGs but more about the tone of the game.)

Probably still gone get to this one eventually, though, since the gameplay seems to be pretty fun.
