It actually originated on the X68000 computer, had a Game Boy Advance port/remake, and a port to the Wii (but only in Japan). Plus it was the focus of a minigame in the PS1 fighting game Zero Divide.

Saw it on twitter a while ago that the Wii version was based off the X68 one. I'll see if I can get it before the service goes down in march.

North American divisions and localizers of Japanese video game companies can be zany, cocky and silly in some ways. Banjo player SNES front cover with spacecraft was made as a reference to the thought of UFOs found even on countrysides, just like that biker girl/UFO episode of the Hulk Hogan cartoon and this Men in Black scene:
