I picked up that game today and after playing it for 90 or so minutes, I must say I'm impressed. Everything is fluid, there aren't any load times between battles, much like FFXII. I would say it's very similar to Dark Cloud 2, without the cheesiness that plagued the title.
There's also a ton of things to do, like raising bugs to make them battle on a chess like board, item creation that requires you to build a factory and add diferent parts and machines, a frog that lets you combine items, a skill grid thats similar to FFX's, except that it's smaller and requires items, 8 playable characters, extra costumes, bounties, the list goes on.
Anybody else got it?

I don't have it, but I've been following all the news about that game and Level 5 for a while now. I love their work and honestly believe they have a very bright future ahead of them. I'd even rank them above the Squaresoft or Enix (or Square-Enix) of today.

I've been really excited about the game for a while now. I think the art style is amazing and the gameplay looks great. I think it will be the last great PS2 RPG. I can't wait to go pick it up next time I go to the store.

I picked this up the other day and played it past the first planet. It's pretty good. It plays very smoothly and sort of reminds me of a mixture of Phantasy Star and Secret of Mana. I could see the battle system getting very dull quickly though... it's a little too hectic and the camera doesn't help with so many characters on screen at once.
The script so far is pretty bad, though the voice acting is alright except for the accents. I'm hoping this won't turn out to be one of those "every character has a difference accent" kind of games.
The graphics are pretty amazing. The backgrounds are very colorful and lush. However, the cel-shading is silly. The only time cel-shading works imo is in something like Dragon Ball Z, where it makes the game look closer to the show. Why cel shade Rogue Galaxy? It's not based on a cartoon. And it's not even very good cel-shading; it just looks like a standard character model with standard textures and a black highlight around the model. This was my problem with both Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest VIII- lazy cel-shading.

Whoah, that looks really good! One of the things that bothered me about FFXII's battle system was that your characters felt unresponsive as they were waiting for their action meter to build back up and they would just stand there next to the monster in the meantime. And the attacks looked like lame MMO attacks.
Rogue Galaxy has that feel of exploring the world like FFXII, but the battle feels a lot more interactive.
Me likes.

It is a really fun game, but so far there isn't any exploring as in FFXII... it's much more linear, more like the exploration you would do in FFX. It may open up a bit more later on but at this point (a couple of hours in) you are basically running down corridors.

Is the combat like Dark Cloud 2? I played a demo of this months ago and that's what it seemed like...and I really didn't like the way that controlled at all. Way too clunky for an action game. Pretty much like PSO, actually.

It pretty much does feel exactly like Dark Cloud 2, so you may not like it. It's definitely more responsive than PSO though.

Pretty much like PSO, actually. Trust me, it's a lot more fluid then DC2. The Suggestion system is also a godsend, instead of blindingly using items and spells, the secondary chars will suggest them to you and by pressing one of the shoulder buttons, you'll allow them to. You can even turn off the skills you dont want them to use, which rocks.
