Does anyone know why the hell the Japanese version of House of the Dead for Saturn is fairly common, but the American version is as rare as all hell? That seems to be the trend on eBay... though, my Saturn can play imports, so I've been thinking of just getting the Japanese version.

Hey, Well...HOTD was among the last batch of Sega Saturn games in the US. They weren't exactly counting on it as a system seller, just to take of care of existing Saturn owners. Whereas the Japanese Saturn was thriving in 1998... The import HOTD should be just fine. The Japanese SS cases/artwork are much better too.

To echo that, in general, Japanese releases of Saturn games are much cheaper than their American counterparts. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force Ep 1, Guardian Heroes, Shining the Holy Ark, and many others can be found much cheaper in Japan.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I gotcha, Chris. And Kurt, you remind me I had to pay $60 for the American version of Guardian Heroes, but it was well worth it.
Hmmmmmmmmmm... a VERY stupid question, but would the language barrier matter much in HotD? Somehow, I doubt it highly, but I'd like to cover all bases if I may.

To expand on the points already made:
HotD US was one of the last US Saturn releases, and IIRC had only 50,000 copies distributed, along with Burning Rangers and whatnot.
The language? No matter whatsoever, really. I would recommend the JP version over the US version simply because the JP version is more common and it goes for no more than $15, while the US is 40+ and scarce to boot.
So, unless you're a collector...
