That's the spirit, of course with the PS3 there should be a guaranteed Platinum release if all goes well...

Having fiddled around with this game last night, I've got to say it's not worth getting unless a joystick is available. I'm still waiting for the VSHG sticks to be reissued, and playing it with the PS3 pad absolutely sucks even more than I remember. It's really a pity that you can't connect PS2 stuff, as I have a joystick or even a Saturn pad just sitting there.
I'd also agree with some of the reviews that are going around that it's a pretty lazy port. If you're not going to have online (which is fine by me, BTW), at least have decent modes. The dojo mode is worse than Evo's, since you can only preview how a select few moves are supposed to come out. It also doesn't have the excellent tutorial mode, presumably to sell more strategy guides or something. This leads to you being in the dark as to how some still complicated moves are supposed to be timed, etc.
Not being able to transfer profiles is another lazy oversight; while I'm not asking for something like being able to upload and grab your profile online, how about being able to save it to memory cards or a thumb drive so you can bring it around, kind of like a VF card system? And vftv is a fancy name for the view movie mode. Being able to save and upload/download replay files would have been sweet, as I hear replay files are actually quite small; too bad this also wasn't implemented.
Typical Sega - make a great foundation for a game, then screw up the trimming.

Wow, that sounds awful. As for the profile thing, they definitely should have fixed that as there were a lot of complaints with how VF4/EVO handled profiles. And they took out the tutorial!!

Since I spent the time writing this (I guess a mini-review) on another site, I thought I might as well post a slightly cleaned up version here as well to give you guys that don't have the game my impressions. I'm no expert by any stretch, but it's generally my impressions of the game as a home port; it's basically an expansion of what I wrote above. Hope it helps your buying decision...
After playing with VF5, I'm thinking the EGM/1up review, as well as other high scoring reviews of the game, are way, way off and is the result of a combination of previous bias and hype surrounding the game. Hell, I might have scored the thing even lower than the 8.1 from Gamespot and given the thing an average/above average mark. Yes, the gameplay may be great, as everyone says; however, there are too many problems with the home port to ignore.
I think the port is one confused creature that isn't quite competent in both single player and versus. As for the single player (I'm leaving out the AI here - that's a discussion for more experienced folks), it has a crappy dojo mode that is completely outshadowed by Evo, and does a horrible job of getting a new player to even want to learn a character's moves. The sheer fact that only a few moves are demoed by the computer is inexcusable; a lot of these moves are flat out hard to pull off, and having no help in getting the timing down in the dojo mode sucks.
As for versus (note: I'm completely fine with no online - they told all of us beforehand that there will be no online versus, and that's what we got), it's also got its share of problems. As everyone here said, lack of the ability to transfer profiles, either online or through card/thumb drive, is sheer stupidity, as it gets rid of a big part of the appeal of building up your character and showing them off to others.
VFTV is also another "feature" that's underutilized, as a way to upload/download replays would have been great; however, it's not there. Not a big deal, but again, something that could have and should have been available for a home port.
Further complicating matters is the fact that the controller absolutely is not up to the task. I was playing with the sixaxis, and on multiple occasions, when I input a bunch of commands at once, the thing would just freeze up for moments and keep K + G held down or some other weird combination, thus locking me out of control. Here's hoping the USB joysticks remedy this situation; however, for the general public who will not be making this investment, the controller problems are inexcusable. This alone would have dropped my rating of the game.
Lastly, I have to criticize Sega's odd choice to make you jump through hoops to bump the resolution beyond 720p. A minor point, but an annoying one nonetheless; it may be a vanity thing for me, but what the hell - I shelled out for a 1080p TV, and if it's available, I want to see the game in that mode. Why Sega chose to force the game to default to 720 is puzzling. Yes, there's an easy workaround in unchecking the 720p box; however, why should I have to go to the menu every damn time to change it just for this one game?
Again, let me say I've got nothing to complain about the gameplay itself at this point; I'm sure it's arcade perfect, and I look forward to learning it in the weeks and months ahead. However, the numerous problems that I've mentioned make for a bad port, and does nothing at all to welcome newbies to VF5. Yes, the graphics may be next-gen; the whole package, unfortunately, is far from it.

Goddamn, it's like every post out of you is either "360's perfect," or "PS3 is for asshats!"
It's kinda hard to take you seriously when you claim to be not biased against anything. Let it go.

If Sega was lazy with the PS3 port, they're gonna be lazy with the 360 port. VF hasn't much of an audience outside of Japan, so why would they rush the PS3 port and then fix the 360 port?
As for the PS3 version resolution issue, do you think it's possible the game runs natively at 720p and when you change the PS3 just upscales it?

kyouki - I haven't looked around for more info on this, so I don't know what the game's doing when it changes resolutions. The only thing I noticed was that my tv sets up at 720p as a default, but when that option's unchecked, it goes to 1080p. Like I said, if there is a difference, it's pretty minor - some stuff does look a bit sharper, but you really won't be able to tell the difference (I have a 46", BTW - maybe there's a bigger difference at even higher sizes?).
It's just a puzzling thing, though - the Japanese box indicates 1080i/p support, but it's left out in the US version. Apparently, it's just as much a hassle to enable it on the Japanese version, too. It's just one of those things that makes you feel...cheated? Confused? That's a little too harsh, but something along those lines.

I'll answer your quote with a quote I'm not pro or anti any console........though I hate the PS3 for it's power consumption and Sony being dicks about it. and Europe is getting fucked over.......again.....Europe Sony hates you. Ok now I'll let it go lets get back to the greatest 3d fighter of all time.

Virtual Fighter has a huge following outside of Japan. How do you explain the fact that Virtual Fighter 4 was a Greatest Hits title? They have to sell a lot of games before Sony will allow them on that label.

VF 4 Evo was released as a Greatest hits title to justify people buying it. If VF is so big why no VF5 US Arcade release?
VF rules Japan Idiots in other countries play Tekken
buy 2 copies of VF5 so VF6 gets a Domestic Arcade release
