In response to that, in black text:Maybe Benson was also put into cryo stasis.

I whole heartedly agree with you Shinigami, that seems like exactly the kind of thing Konami/Hideo would use. Awesome for plot twists in Snatcher though.

That's really cool! I think it's something like Kojima reusing Meryl in both Policenauts and Metal Gear Solid. If you try to place all Kojima games in a linear timeline, it won't fit in at all, he just likes reusing stuff for the fun of it.

I love the way Kojima has made references back and forth between his different creative properties over the years. Let me count the ways, here.
1988: Snatcher + From Metal Gear, Dr. Petrovich is a primary figure in the game's backstory, and there's a reference to the "Metal Gear menace." + Metal Gear Mk. II is introduced as a peaceful spin-off of the bipedal tank's design. + Benson Cunningham is said to be a veteran of FOXHOUND. + There's a club called Outer Heaven.
1990: Metal Gear 2 + From Snatcher, Dr. Petrovich now sports his surname of "Madnar." There's also a reference to his Snatcher program near the end of the game.
1994: Policenauts + From Metal Gear 1 and 2, Meryl Silverburgh bears a tattoo of the FOXHOUND logo. Like Benson, she's described as a former member of the unit.
1998: Metal Gear Solid + From Policenauts, Meryl's character is recycled as a rookie soldier who is only a fan of FOXHOUND, although she still has her tattoo. + Footage from Policenauts is used for Otacon's explanation of the role anime has played in robotics research. There's also a poster of the game on the wall of his lab. + At the end of the game, Snake's real name is revealed to be David, referencing Dave Forrester, Meryl's partner in Policenauts. + From Snatcher, Metal Gear Mk. II was planned as an item Snake could use, but this was removed prior to the game's completion.
2001: Metal Gear Solid 2 + From Policenauts, Ed Brown's character was planned to be recycled as the bombs specialist who assists a team of Navy SEALs. However, when Kojima's script came to call for the specialist's death, he had the character changed to an original, Peter Stillman, since he didn't want to kill off Ed. + Karen Hojo was planned to report on the destruction of Manhattan during the game's ending, going along with her occupation as an anchorwoman, but this was cut. + As in the last game, there's a poster of Policenauts to be found, this time near the working space of Otacon's sister.
2004: Metal Gear Solid 3 - Er, nothing? Really? Am I forgetting something?
2006: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + From Snatcher, Benson's character is recycled as "Lieutenant Cunningham," an agent of FOX. However, aside from their names and employers, the two of them aren't very similar.
2007: Metal Gear Solid 4 + From Snatcher, Kojima finally makes good on MGS1's pre-production and includes Metal Gear Mk. II as a robotic helper for Snake. + Meryl returns, now older, tougher, and supposedly a full-fledged member of FOXHOUND. Along with her new bandana, she now bears a closer resemblance to her original Policenauts incarnation.
Man, that's a lot. I intentionally excluded the Zone of the Enders references in MGS2, since he's only the producer of that franchise. Same deal with Metal Gear AC!D, and its references just come in the form of cards, anyway. But other than that, I don't think I overlooked anything.
