Civil War Hulk comics Marvel Zombies Moon Knight Ghostrider Most of the ultimate comics there are far many good comics compared to any actual good manga What you smoking? I could name a whole bunch of awesome manga. And theirs a whole lot more good american comics I could name too. All the stuff you mentioned here is pretty mainstream most of the best comics I've found recently have been published by Image or Darkhorse. How could you come out and say that about manga expecially considering that allot of it wasn't even released here so you don't have access to them, so you've never read them to begin with and could properly judge them. You have access to almost all american comics , that the Japanese don't so its the same thing happening over there. Also note if your Judging manga series off the first volume then thats not right because manga creators usually put their one shot of series out as the first volume which is always very unrefined work, that they probaly put out before deciding what they want to do with the series.

It's also all subjective.

It's also all subjective. I guess but from talking to many Manga/comic enthuasists the general conses is that their is a least ten very well liked manga series out there. I'm not saying my opinion is better then Mazinsaga's I'm just saying to undermind manga like that when he probaly hasn't had enough exposure to it is a little ignorant.

I rarely read comics and it's even more of a rarity to see me hold a manga book in my hand, but I will say this: Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges.

Yeah, I wasn't striking at you Dale, more at the general arguement of Manga VS Comics..though I don't actively read either I'd assume their hit to miss ratio is about the same but the range of avaliablity of either could make it seem like one has more quality then the other.
Though I think Manga is more evolved in terms of what the term envelops..it just seems like most comics follow standard patterns but with Manga there's more patterns to follow.

First off,I really like Mark Millar works, especially Ultimates and Wanted.Still,I think he slightly overreacted this time, although he's only stating his personal opinions, not the whole industry's feelings about videogaming, despite this thread's title might suggest. Having said that,I think the reason is really simple: people don't read comics because they don't like to read. The Italian comics industry lose everyday readers because of this.

Comics are for kids and therefore pedoes are the only adults that read them. Same with games. I think he was being sarcastic in his own twisted way; I myself make jokes like that all the time that fly over most heads, and insult others. It's a wonder I haven't had a fight in years.....

I don't find that sarcastic or witty, I find it ignorant.
Adults who play videogames and read comics are NERDS. DORKS. LOSERS. Fine. We're used to that. But pedophiles? That's going too far. If I remember correctly... a pedophile is somebody who finds children sexually attractive... now what the hell does that have ANYTHING to do with videogames? I can't think of a damn thing. You can't generalize something like that. Let's say for example that there are certain websites for that. So instead of publicly saying that CERTAIN websites are for pedos... you go ahead and say THE ENTIRE INTERNET is for pedos... and piss off alot of people. It's stupid. Or with anime... there's no doubt in my mind that there are certain anime out there that appeal to pedophiles... yeah I think it's pretty obvious... but is EVERY SINGLE ONE like that? No... so if I said "Anime is for pedophiles"... people would get pissed. It would be a STUPID and IGNORANT thing for me to say. I'm sorry... even if it is just his opinion.

P2P file sharing is for Pedos (ever do a video search on limewire/frostwire? try it and see what you accidentally end up getting seriously)
Just about any search for a video even if it's a TV show brings up some form of disgusting CP

I give each manga I read four chances, If I'm not interested by the fourth volume it's a complete waste of time. I have only read two manga series completely through in the last three years, Death Note and Scrapped Princess.

That reminds me of my dislike of One Piece, my friends are massive fans and they did anything but disown me to get me to watch through more than 150 episodes of the anime adaptation, and with every episode I just liked it less and less. They still say that I didn't give it a chance, but to me this is the best chance I've ever given an anime series ever.
As for comics I've only read the occasional american Spiderman, I was lucky that my granny kept a bunch of Golden Age ones for her grandchildren, but that's about it. The Jap side has caught my attention far more, mostly since mainstream comics are all about mutated superbeings, and I just happen to like things like Genshiken and Case Closed more.
Take that as you will, though I have to admit that I haven't read enough western comics to make an assumption, this is how I feel right now.

Yeah, like averagejoe, I only really like manga and anime with a planned out story. All of the Shonen Jump stuff seems to go on and on. In many cases, like Inuyasha, the anime has a ton of episodes yet doesn't even resolve the story at the end. It makes me think, "What's the point if the story ends halfway?" I only have one exception to this and that is Berserk. The manga series just keeps on going but it's still awesome. Also, check out Monster. It's a great manga/anime that is awesome and already done.

Scrapped Princess? I have the Anime DVD of that. It's in Engrish (as in, it has English subtitles that are really, really bad...JUST good enough to kinda know what's going on), but the artwork is nice and the plot is kind of interesting. It's one of the only anime series I watched all the way through on DVD oddly, even though I have Sorceress Hunters (Very funny), Key: The Metal Idol, Blue Seed, etc. Did you like Scrapped Princess? Anyway, I do agree somewhat with an earlier statement, about American comics not exactly being as varied as Japanese manga, but I guess it's just what each region of the world is accustomed to. America likes heroes with powers, spandex, and often secret identities that don't seem so secretive to the reader, but to everyone in the world of the comic. And those Pedo comments are totally uncalled for

The berserk manga is still going on? I need to start picking up copies of that again then.
