I'm not buying this My 360 died crap at all. well maybe on older units. I reference this kotaku.com/gaming/xbox-360/xbox-360-100-percent-failure-rate-241794.phpI do know some people who have had their launch or near launch 360s crap out or almost die. (december 2005 and January 2006 respectivly) I've had my 360 a few months and the first month I was bombarded with freezes and hiccups I got my system and with in the first 15 minutes I got the 3 redlights of death but that was my fault for not hooking the system up correctly. However in the last 2 months no issues freezes hiccups or anything. in fact MOST if not all the freezes were game glitches (when I updated rumble roses it all stopped) I have heard NO reports of 360s made after July of Last year dying My unit was made in August. SO............who else is having a grand old no issues time with their 360? My Theory on all 360s dying people hate Microsoft so they'll latch on to anything about them and exaggerate it to try to bring the big bad largest company in the world down a few notches....... With Windows Vista sucking do they really need to try?

My theory is that people don't know what the hell they're doing. 99.99% of the time whenever someone returns a 360 it turns out they moved it around while it was playing a disk or that they have the power brick on a shag carpet or something.

That too my 3 red lights were caused by my 360 being upright and plugged into a power strip.
I also keep my power brick on a block of wood off my carpet
Playing Brain Age my DS froze.......ZOMG DSes have issues too *rolls eyes*
I've only had 1 system die on me in the 23 years I've been gaming and that's my beloved dreamcast

I worked at Gamestop and we got quite a few bricked 360's returned. I'm convinced that there are some issues out there especially with the first batch of units but I do think that a lot of people forget that they are PC's and they need proper ventilation. At any rate, I do think Microsoft should make them more durable. This sort of thing shouldn't be happening especially after all of those PS2's died because of DRE's.

I agree that a lot of it is probably just conditions that the (fragile 1st first batch especially) were placed under..which is perfectly acceptable since you know..every console ever has done that, I've never had a console fail on me ever (barring a PSX that broke apparently after I sold it..which to me says that they kept it in poor conditions). Though mind you, for a bit of proof that somethings up, Assembler is up to his forth and while usually I'd say that it's the individuals fault the guy would know how to store a console.

I had my first original XBox totally die on my and my PC Engine Duo doesn't like Redbook anymore. I can say that I did abuse my XB. At the time, Halo LAN parties were the best thing in the world so I carted it around everywhere, jostling it to and fro. No wonder it gave up.... However, I took really good care of my PCD but the CD sound went on it. From what I hear it is a problem many PCD's get so it wasn't my fault.

Mine gets DREs every once in awhile (mostly just on Dead Rising), and occasionally requires a few button presses to eject the disc drive, but otherwise it works just fine.

I have a launch 360, and it's working just fine. I haven't dared play Oblivion on it, since I hear that game causes the drive to spin up to max every time a VO is played, thus torching many a 360. At least I have a PC that finally handle Oblivion.
Mine 60% of the time gets DRE errors if I hit the power button when the disk is spinning pretty hard. It's always been rectified by opening and closing the tray.

I've only had mine for a month, and I've had a few DREs while playing Oblivion. Seems this is a common problem, though.

DREs aren't really a fault of the system it self. the Slightly Ding on a disc combied with a VERY sensitive laser lead to 360 DREs.
I have a used dead rising that gets DREs and my new Gears of war with one light scratch (hardly noticeable unless you hold it up to the light) also gets them.
Very different from the PS2 where DREs are the systems fault.

It can be faulty console design that leaders to DREs though, with the old top loading console a lot of the time the lasers rail would become worn and the laser would fall out of alignment. Though with the 360 DREs are still partially the consoles fault if the laser isn't a high quality laser causing DREs.

My XBOX has the Faulty Thompson drive.....near launch system works fine besides being picky about DVDs and CDs
I never hear anything about Gamecubes dying besides 1 that died because it got Saw dust in it

Mine's fine. Of my two games, only my new copy of Dead Rising has given me disk read errors (which really confuses me). My used copy of Condemned, aside from a few in-game errors like a corrupt checkpoint and a glitch or two, works fine.
