I got this yesterday and played it a bit... it's a very impressive collection filled with content.
You've got every Sega Monster World game on here including different versions for each region if applicable! Each game allows you to customize the controls and display settings (480i, 480p, 240p, etc including scanlines and smoothing options) as well as look through scanned artwork, instruction manuals, sheet music (!), and other stuff. There are even sound tests for most of the games!
It's too bad some of the tg16 games aren't on here, but there's a perfectly fine master system version of Monster World II included which is almost as good.
This is definitely how retro compilations should be done!

Got this in over the weekend. I decided to overhaul the Wonder Boy article to clean it up to more recent standards, including adding a few more screenshots, polishing some of the writing, and putting up some pics of the box artwork taken from this collection.
I'm really happy with it. I love these Sega Ages packs, I wish they'd bring over more.

I hope Sega will do more of these in the future. I love the archiveness of it. A shinobi collection would be awesome, as well as a Fantasy Land collection. Golden Axe too (include the cool master system and game gear action adventure games!). I notice the following on Wikipedia: # Vol. 30 Phantasy Star I*II*III*IV (TBA, Spring 2007) # Vol. 31 Virtual On (TBA, Summer 2007) # Vol. 32 Galaxy Force II (TBA, 2007) # Vol. 33 Fantasy Zone II DX (TBA, 2007) I would definitely pick up vols 30 and 33. I'm hoping Fantasy Zone II DX will be like the Space Harrier collection and will have all the Fantasy Zone games on there. I'm also hoping the Phantasy Star collection will have multiple region versions as well as tons of ads, images, etc. The only thing stopping me from picking up the Sega Genesis collection was the fact that PS1 wasn't on there... I understand why, but it seems strange to not include the original game when all the others are present. [edit] according to Sega's site, the PS collection will include the Phantasy Star II Text Adventure games, but there's no mention of the Game Gear PS game (maybe hidden?) Also, it looks like FZ collection will be similar to the Space Harrier collection in that all the games will be included! Nice!

Yeah really, there's so much potential and they must be easy to produce, since they're just emulators + supplemental material. Playing this one really made me hope for an Alex Kidd collection.
I THINK there might be a Fantasy Zone one in the works - the official title is "Fantasy Zone II DX" or something like that, which doesn't really SAY much. But there's enough material for an interesting compilation.

You should get the Mega Drive collection, it's well worth the money. Plus, you lucky americans get an extra game, Shadow Dancer. SEGA took it out of the European version. I'd really like them to do a Master System collection, that'd be mint.

According to Sega's website, the Fantasy Zone II DX collection will have all the FZ games, so that's very cool.
As for the Sega Genesis collection, I'll just get the PS collection when it comes out this year. It's got all four games with extra stuff.

I own all of the main Phantasy Star games at least twice across all of the collections, but I still want that Sega Ages pack. I've always toyed with getting the Saturn compilation, but never did. I'd assume it would echo a lot of the bonus content that was apparently found on there. I also heard that they included a "run" button for PS1-3. Is this true? It'd be nice to see that implemented, if that was the case.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the sound. Generally I'm not too picky about the emulation on these things - stuff like interlacing or filtering or whatever doesn't bother me - but I'm a stickler for sound. Some of the earlier Sega Ages emulation haven't been quite perfect - Space Harrier 2 sounded a bit off, as did all of the games on the Treasure Box. The Wonder Boy collection uses the same emulator, but the sound generally seemed pretty okay, although I haven't put extensive time into Wonder Boy 5. I wonder if they improved this part of the emulator?
AFAIK, the Sega Genesis collection used streamed audio for the music, but emulated the sound effects. This results in perfect music but a lot of other glitches regarding the sound. Plus, PS4 has this weird bug where the battle music keeps playing when the victory tune comes up, resulting in a horrible (if brief) cacophony.
I really hope Sega keeps up with these for awhile. They're much more interesting than the $8-a-game ripoff Virtual Console crap.

My friend got a wii and is spending all this money on buying virtual copies of games he's already bought in cart form as a kid. I look at the prices and go " ." I'd much rather pay $30 for a themed retro compilation that comes on a disc with a beautiful full color booklet with interviews in it and tons of content on the disc AND tons of options for displaying the game exactly as I want to display it. Sega's retro collections so far put even the Capcom collections to shame.
