I was up last night playing the Marvel Vs. series of fighting games and I noticed something, particularly with fighting games. Say, I'm fighting as Ken (Who wins over Ryu and Akuma) and trying to take down Cyclops, The music in the background is either Ken's theme or Cyclops theme, both really good, upbeat kind of marching forward songs, I'll do really good. Say though, I'm fighting as Ken again but my opponent is Wolverine. Usually it plays Wolverines song, which really fits him. It's imposing, a slower paced song. I spent over an hour trying to beat him on the third lowest difficulty.

Not quite sure exactly what you mean here man, but character themes are really something special?
I do often find the difference in any game between a good fight and an epic fight boils down to whether the music during the engagment is any good.

Background music only affects my skills if it's a song I hate. Case in point: "Birthday Cake" in JSRF.

When you're good enough at a game, you'll zone the music right out. In fact, you generally can't hear the music too well in most tourneys.
