For a change of pace - I think it would be really cool to do some individual profiles of various VGM composers. Like, not just list the titles that'd they'd done - you can get their discography on their official webpages, thanks to being subhosted by awesome places like VGMWorld - but a dissemination of their style, and most importantly, some of their best pieces of music. The idea is that when someone mentions Sakuraba or someone, they get a good feeling of their style.
I'd like this to be a roundtable type of work though - like we could pick a composer and then people could pick one or two of their favorite tracks, and do a quick, few sentence write-up on why the track is awesome. Ideally, there should be between five and twenty of these entries, depending on how prolific the composer is.
Off the top of my head, these are the ones I'd like to do:
Hitoshi Sakimoto/Masaharu Iwata (FF Tactics, FFXII, Odin Sphere)
Motoi Sakuraba (Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Baten Kaitos)
Toshikazu Tanaka (KoF MI1 and 2, Rage of the Dragons, Metal Slug 4, 5 and 3D)
Michiru Yamane (many of the more recent Castlevanias)
Ryo Yonemitsu (the PCE Ys games - more of an arranger than a composer, but still worthy)
Jesper Kyd (Adventures of Batman and Robin for the Genesis, Freedom Fighters, Robotech: Invasion)
Frank Klepacki (most of the older Command and Conquers, Dune 2000)
Let's not limit this to Japanese guys either - anyone would do nicely. Heck, we don't need to limit to individual composers - something in general like Zuntata could be cool. (Although I think ones like Konami Kukeiha Club, JDK Band or SNK New World Orchestra might be a bit too broad, since they were credited as being responsible for nearly all of the soundtracks produced by those companies in the 90s.)
I'll see about posting some examples later when I get around to writing them.
