Hi guys. Don't know if I can describe the purpose of this thread, but I'll try: Herein you could (and should) write about that one tune in a game you just played that, among all the other music that's just forgettable, generic or of subpar quality, suddenly stood out and you just think "Wow, that's a cool tune. Rocking/Grooving/Atmospheric/Whatever..." To describe it in a more practical way, at the moment I am playing "Wing of Madoola" aka "Madoola no Tsubasa", which had some okay music so far, nothing special... When suddenly Level 5 starts, and my ears start tingling. Wow, that tune somehow got me. To let others make their mind up, here's a YouTube video of a speedrun through the game.Sorry, I don't know how to extract music. Just scroll to Level 5, I hope he doesn't do the run too fast ^^ If it is too fast, please tell me how to extract Music with NEStopia, and I'll do it ASAP. EDIT: I decided to not be lazy and found out where I can record the music. So Here is the mp3.Now go! Download it and tell me what you think. or ?

C&C:RA had some really weird music, but hell march hit the next in the play list, and thats when I get into a commanding streak, same goes for batman on NES, i found stage one's music very wonderful, but the other music never took off for me.

Most of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence's soundtrack was pretty forgettable if you ask me, but the real standouts are Ghostly Theater (which comes the closest to SotN's style) and House of Sacred Remains. I also kind of liked Fog Enshrouded Nightscape, but not enough to call it a standout.

I'd say the same thing for Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, where the soundtrack was blah, but Successor of Fate and Chapel of Dissonance were pretty damned cool songs.

I've never really been a big fan of Dead or Alive's music. I can't really remember much of it aside from the somewhat funny hair-metal guitar twangs in Ryu Hayabusa's theme, but Helena's theme, Blazed Up Melpomene, has always stood out for me.

Frozen Buffalo stage theme from Mega Man X3 is quite nice.

Keith Courage(TG16)
Only two songs in that game are actually even good.

Romancia (Dragon Slayer Jr.), it's a pretty average soundtrack but the title theme rocks out like any Ys game.

That's funny, most people love that entire soundtrack to pieces (although there's only like, what, 8 songs?). My fave is stage 4. Unfortunately, I'd say most RPG soundtracks fit the bill. There's this strong push in recent years for RPGs to get longer, and to avoid tracks from being overused, they, in turn, push composers to create 80+ song soundtracks. This almost always results in a ton of filler, even with some of the best composers. Personally I liked RPGs and RPG music a whole lot better when you could get a wholly satisfying experience in 20-30 hours.

Save for the catchy Stage 1 BGM, The Adventures of Dino Riki has a forgettable soundtrack.

You really need to play the game with its odd cyberpunk-ish visuals to get the full affect. A lot of it relies on the noise channel "drums" too which turns many people off. Stage four's song is definitely the best. Though the intro song is great too if allowed to continue, I always wished they used it in a level.

How about the most obvious example of all of these.
Fatal Fury 1.
Mostly awful/generic music throughout. It picks up a little bit for Raiden's theme, and then there's the first occurance of the theme song that would follow Geese Howard around for almost his entire tenure through other games, and even beyond the grave into KoF Maximum Impact, which he's not even in.
