Okay, so I downloaded a lot of music from this wedsite here, and it's damn good music for sure. project2612.org/list.phpOf course, I only know it's good music because of the games in which I have played them. As for playing the music files, that's a no-go. Despite the VGM WinAmp plugin that I need to play the music files, THE FUCKING COMPUTER CRASHES EVERY TIME I PLAY A GENESIS MUSIC FILE!!! Just to clarify, I got the plugin from this site: www.smspower.org/music/vgmtools.shtmlSo... troubleshooting, please? I would be quite thankful if this highly irritating problem were to be resolved. I don't know if it's because of Vista (which I'm starting to realize blows, but I didn't have a choice; it came with the laptop I bought), or if I'm just applying the music files wrong, or... I dunno. Please, much help on this.

Perhaps it's your version of winamp? If the plugin wasn't set up properly then surely it'd just refuse to play it rather than crash your computer :S
Maybe reinstalling winamp would be a good idea.

Hmm... the version I have is Winamp 2.95. Will that have any bearing on anything?

Well it shouldn't really... but the version I have is 5.35.

It could be Winamp itself. I was having problems with Winamp recently, so I converted back to foobar2000. kode54.foobar2000.org/foo_gep.zip is a foobar component that will play SPCs and VGMs as well as a few others. kode54.foobar2000.org/foo_psf.zip for PSFs. foobar for me has been a lot less crashy and less memory-intensive than Winamp 5.

I can second the transition to Foobar2000 - I've actually uninstalled Winamp completely, and haven't gone back since.

Okay, good news: Despite some problems, foobar has yet to utterly crash my computer, so it's on my good side at the moment.
Bad news: the ".gep" plugin is not playing either my Genesis files OR my SNES files... so I need some help on that. Is it the plugin itself? I tried downloading it from above AND the website from which the plugin comes from... no go. I need further help, but once I'm able to play all the files I want, I promise I'll quit pestering everybody.

Did you put the GEP plugin in the components folder and did you check the options?

Did you put the GEP plugin in the components folder and did you check the options? A: Yep, into the components folder. B: ... I'm... not sure how you check options. Options on what, exactly? Foobar or the plugin? I don't see any "options" tab anywhere... if you mean "preferences," I find nothing in there to help me. I don't know what the hell gives. So, let me get a bit more in-depth about things here. For example, I try to play the Live-A-Live soundtrack, and the artist/album looks like "?-?". Then, when I try to play it, here's the exact message: "Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format)" ... however, when I go into "preferences," I find in the "File Types" section that foobar supports SPC files... oh, same thing for Genesis and VGM files. By all means, it SHOULD be able to play these. So what's with this fucking "unsupported file format" shit?! I apologize for being hostile on this matter, but it always pisses me off when something that should work somehow fails despite all logic. And yes, technology ALWAYS sucks this much for me. EDIT: Hang on... I think I've figured something out. According to the website from which I got the gep plugin, it's intended for Foobar v. 9.3. See, I've got 9.5.... but I don't know where to get the plugin for 9.5. Trust me, I'll quit being such a pest once this is said and done.

Try getting the foo_gep plugin from here: kode54.foobar2000.org/I've tested it on Foobar version 0.9.5.1 on the FF6 SPC soundtrack, and it seems to work just fine. [edit] It seems that Isao has already linked to this page - but the plugin there is now dated February 27th, 2008, so there should be no reason why it shouldn't work.

I got the plugin from that exact link, and I downloaded it into my components folder. However, it still refuses to work, despite all logic. This is really infuriating me to a high degree. However, I'm not sure if this will change anything, but to play a music file, I drag the file from its folder into Foobar. Is that likely to affect anything? If not, then I'm still very confused on how to make this work.

Just tested myself, and no, that shouldn't be the problem - I've loaded the Shining Force soundtrack in VGM, and it hasn't crashed at all. At this point I'm willing to rule out "user error" as the cause of your problems...

BREAKTHROUGH!!! Heh, after lots of downloading, reinstalling, and persistence, I can now somehow play Genesis music files! YES!!! ... however, the SNES music files that I obtained from this website still do not work: snesmusic.org/I have realized that it is not SPC files from these website, but rather RSN files. However, I cannot find any Foobar plugin for RSN. Once I have that, I will finally lay this to rest and leave you all in peace!

Rename the RSNs to RARs and either play them with foobar or extract them.
