I'm another one that's going to have to recommend Aquaria

It looks and sounds right up my alley. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I'm in a game shop that sells PC titles. (:

Can you even buy Aquaria from regular gaming stores yet? For some reason I've a feeling it's only available at the official Aquaria website. www.bit-blot.com/aquaria/

Thanks for the link! 'Tis now bookmarked for later perusal. Also, just from descriptions and screenshots, this talk of Aquaria reminded me of another couple games Metroidvania fans are sure to love: nifflas.ni2.se/I refer, of course, to Nifflas' freeware masterworks, Knytt and Knytt Stories. The former isn't QUITE a Metroidvania, as the entire world is completely open to you from the start... but Knytt Stories most definitely is, and it's just an absolutely amazing game. Within a Deep Forest is also quite outstanding, albeit a bit frustrating... and while it's not quite one big interconnected world like in Knytt or Knytt Stories (it's more level-based), it does have a lot more of the "new abilities allow you access to new areas" mechanic, and is just an incredibly creative and unique game to begin with. -Tom

I second Knytt Stories. What a great game. Good thing I decided to play it in the end and didn't ignore it because of the screenshots alone.

None of Nifflas' games can really be represented by screenshots. They're all astoundingly beautiful in motion... but if you take a screenshot, they just look so amateurish!
