I was wondering, where exactly does copyright law stand on me recording myself playing Electroplankton, compiling my favourite parts, and then distributing them (most likely for free online), or remixing them, or doing anything with them that would normally infringe upon the rights of the intellectual property owner?
There's a picture in the book of a guy listening to a CD of EP music, but personal use might differ from something you intend to make available to the public. Did Toshio Iwai make any public statements to address this?

I don;t think it would matter man. Go for it. Hell if there's a problem it'll easily just be a cease and desist letter. So do whatever.
