I played the Xbox version once and I remember the 3D backgrounds.

I could swear they're in there. I have it and I remember them, though I'll double check.

The XBox version certainly does. I distinctly remember disabling them the first chance I got :X

This is very odd. I've messed around with the options menu completely and nothing has changed. It still has the same 2D backgrounds as the AES version.

It's under "Graphic Setting". The first option is "Graphic" - "Arcade" is the regular 2D stuff, while "Normal" are the 3D backgrounds.

It's set to normal by default though.
Edit: Ah. I found the problem. Seems that even when you set the graphics to "Normal", in VS mode, the 2D stages are still included along with the new 3D ones, so I just happened to keep going to 2D stages.

I hear that the NEST collection for the PS2 contains the option to play the Dreamcast ports modes for 99, 2000,2001. Is this true? I take it that the US versions of 2000 and 2001 dont have the Dreamcast modes. Also, now that KOF 98 has come out for the PS2 in japan, it should be explained in the article.

This is something we need to find out. PS2 KoF2001 has a completely different interface for selecting characters/etc. that uses Nona's artwork instead of the in-game protraits. The Dreamcast version on the other hand is effectively arcade perfect in its accuracy while still having some extra modes.

Yes, Nests uses the DC versions.

And it has a brand new arranged soundtrack for KoF 2001.
Yeah, the KoF article is next on my list to update - for this, 98 Ultimate Match, KoF Max Impact Regulation A, and stuff about the anime/comics that I neglected to cover the first time around.

Bizarrely, they don't seem to allow you to configure the controls for the NeoGeo versions of the games in the NESTS collection. :/ You can configure the controls for the DC versions however.

Yeah I just got to try it out. None of the options apply to the Neo Geo mode stuff, so you can't use the Arrange soundtracks or get the in game movelists. It's also weird that they didn't somehow put in the improved character portraits and backgrounds into 2001. As such, there's no real definitive version out there.
