hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/startrader/startrader.htmI'd been curious about this game for years, since I heard some music from it on a Falcom arrangement CD. Turns out it's a shoot-em-up from Falcom. The original version adds some cool adventure elements in but the actual shooting segments are garbage. The X68000 ditches the adventure stuff and instead makes a quality (if a bit generic) shmup. Music's not up yet, and neither are the disk images (rare exception, I only found the PC88 images by prowling a Chinese emulation forum.) I don't expect much people to find interest in something like this but I've been on a Falcom kick lately.

Hey, thanks! I have always wondered what kind of game this is. Interesting. Only heard about it couple of times at Ancient Land of Ys message board. So, you're going to upload the game images? Nice.

WHAT?!? Falcom made a SHMUP?!? I honestly have NEVER heard of this game until just now... but I must say, I like what I see. Naturally, I'd get the X68000 version... although the PC88 version holds promise with having adventure elements behind the shmuppage, the fact that the actual shooting segments themselves are too hard fails in my eyes. Great article to let others know about a game that very few have ever heard of, although if I can point out a Wright-like contradiction in your writing... You can only take one hit but are now granted three lives - however, the game isn't too terribly hard, and at only seven stages long, it's not easy to beat. I was thinking you meant to say that it's "too easy to beat." *smartass smirk*

One thing that keeps bugging me is this joke about having no weaponry and always crashing on the sides of your enemies.

Thanks, this is again what I get for writing things at 2 AM on a Friday night. ;D Fixed now, plus the MP3s and disk images are up. The songs are pretty good - Star Trader sounds like something of the TG16 Ys games, and The Charge is good old 80s rock. Anyway this picture is so awkward I couldn't help but post it.

Okay, so that engineer-looking guy is standing on the main character's shoulders and...where's his other foot? And what's with that look that makes me think he's "penetrating" something or even getting "penetrated"?

The green mustache sells it, IMO. ;D

...Is that even a mustache? I think it could be some gelatine stuck to his face.

I have a theory that involves Dæmon Tools and WinX68K Fast Version.

Discoalucard, how do you use the X68000 disk images for this game? I used WinX68K High Speed. You might need some BIOS ROMs? I'm not sure. Anyway, it's as simple as hitting the FDD0 menu, selecting the first disk, hitting FDD1, and selecting the second disk. It should boot up automatically from there. As for the picture - at one point, you're captured and end up in jail with that green mustached guy. You escape with him in another ship but I guess it's really cramped? Those expressions are priceless.

Does anyone have the English translations of the cutscenes in the X68000 version?
