I've been watching films like Alien, The Thing, Halloween, and various other horror movies from the 70s and 80s, and one of my favourite parts of these movies are their excellent soundtracks that really put you in that scary, creepy mood. I was wondering what game soundtrack out there is good for a similar feeling.

The obvious choice of course are the Silent Hill soundtracks. You might also want to try the soundtrack for the saturn version of Baroque, some very creepy Vangelis type electronica. The castlevania soundtracks also have some very creepy music, particularly Castlevania 64 and Symphony of the Night. Even though resident evil is more cheesey horror there's some really creepy music on the soundtrack.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. "Shinjuku Hygenic Hospital" is still one of the creepiest songs EVER, and there are plenty more where that came from. Also, I've always been partial to the Clock Tower PS1 (Clock Tower 2 Japan, Clock Tower 1 U.S.) ending theme. Which you can actually download here: dcj.bluemoonsea.com/splash.htmlThe song is on the "Clock Tower USA Original Soundtrack", and is called "Darkness (Credits)". "Little John From the Castle" is also creepy as all hell, but for entirely different reasons. (: -Tom

Though not for a horror game, the soundtrack to Exhumed/Powerslave (by Tommy Tallarico) has an undeniable creepy quality to it. Though ethnic and middle-eastern, this doesn't take away from the uneasy vibe. It enhances it ten-fold. It perfectly captures the feeling of being the lone human in a crazy alternate Egypt, and some of the tracks (especially the ones with vocals) will give you chills. Highly recommended!

If memory serves, it was an FPS for the Saturn with an Egyptian theme.

If memory serves, it was an FPS for the Saturn with an Egyptian theme. And for the Playstation and PC. It's called Exhumed in Europe and Powerslave in America. Other than the obvious choices (aka silent hill) I've always found the music in the SFC Shin Megami Tensei games pretty creepy. Oh and if you haven't watched Suspiria, do it. The soundtrack is great and creepy as hell.

What exactly is Suspiria, if I may ask?

I have, and that's one of those series I've been saying to myself for years, "I want to play." Despite the fact that almost every game that came out on the Dreamcast and every system before it is available to me for free, I find myself always being too lazy to try them out. There's even big time Nintendo games I haven't played it, and I'm a male lesbian for Nintendo.
I guess I just forgot these, but the Resident Evil games always had good fitting, creepy tunes. Especially the GC remake of RE 1.
