How does one get that secret message? At the final screen where it says "The War Is Over" and gives you your score, just sit there and do nothing. Eventually it fades out and some text shows up, like a transmission from one of the enemies.

And that was removed from Cybernator?

I've played all the way through Cybernator a great deal of times and let it idle at the end, I've never seen a secret message, so I think it was removed, Rey.

Did you notice the character designs in Valken/Cybernator are from Satoshi Urushihara? Since Masaya also produced Langrisser, that doesn't surprise me.

Nice article. :) Seems like your editing is getting cleaner too. I barely noticed any typos, although it seems some have already been pointed out in this topic and cleaned up.
Of what I can remember of the mistakes I noticed, there's:
"... whole torrent of SD Gundam strategy and/or RPG games."
Redundancy, obviously.
"Masaya also put a lot of subtle care put both the graphical details and level designs."
Second "put" where there should be an "into" or some such.
"Much like Choaniki's musclemen appeared in Langrisser..."
You need a "how" before "Choaniki" or something along those lines.
"As a result, most of the focusing is strictly on the action..."
I'd make it just "focus" myself, but it's your call.
"Your gun even needs a second or two to reload, just like Cybernator."
Probably should throw an "in" before "Cybernator".
"Otherwise, it's fantastic game."
Missing an "a" obviously.
Not sure if that's everything I came across, but that's the most I can offer short of reading through the whole thing again. :P

Well, these are in order, and only encompasse the suicide screens at the bottom of the page. But as a note, because these seem to be only some of the screens, the lines may have minor context-sensitive issues: "So you've given up" "That's (my) intention..." "The problem is not what caused the war!" "The man I am now can only do this (much)..."" "Something like this..." (or "This, thing...")

And that was removed from Cybernator? Yep. Dual's right, you can let Cybernator sit there forever, and no message will ever pop up. Well, these are in order, and only encompasse the suicide screens at the bottom of the page. But as a note, because these seem to be only some of the screens, the lines may have minor context-sensitive issues: "So you've given up" "That's (my) intention..." "The problem is not what caused the war!" "The man I am now can only do this (much)..."" "Something like this..." (or "This, thing...") Very interesting. Now I want to know what the rest of it translates to, not to mention everything else in the game I could never understand. I want to know the real story! Thanks!

Mistake: "so you can't see how long you can use your special weapons, bu insteadt your mech shows discoloration and visible damage after taking too many hits." hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/assaultsuits/assaultsuits2.htmAnyone got a save at the suicide screen? I want to make an animated GIF that lets the reader tell exactly what happens in the scene. Since the character is so small, I doubt anyone can tell what is happening exactly. Hurry before Kurt gets busy with something else and doesn't upload the pic. And how come there wasn't any mention of that never to be Metal Warriors sequel for the GBA?

Oh yeah, I remember that game. It's a blatant Cybernator copy (or maybe the other way around?).

Great article; was about time Valken got some coverage here. Don't quite agree with your praise for Metal Warriors though; I really wanted to like it, but anything resembling an appealing atmosphere is ruined by the ZAPZAPZAP sound effects; it's almost comical even.
Another passable Valken clone would be the Korean DOS game Iron Blood. I used to have it but almost never got to play it back in the day because it was a total bitch to get to run - yay for DOSBox!
You can select from two mechs at the beginning of each level, and the first one is very Valken-ish, with a dash, jetpack, punch and aimable, upgradable vulcan gun. Some nice sprites, worth checking out.

The PS2 version of Cybernator should have used the remix tracks for the music.

Just tried this for, ahem, purely academic purposes, and it's actually surprisingly decent... It could pass for a regular action game until the end of stage 2 where everybody starts having a lot of sex for no apparent reason. I do like the gradius-style powerups, and the controls are a lot more streamlined than Cybernator's. - HC

Probably the lack of nipples and pixellated genitalia . Seriously, though, I'm surprised he didn't do porn of it...he did for just about everything else (and other people's stuff too...Castle of Cagliostro even).
