It's a very noob-friendly shmup that fixes a lot of problems that plagued the older Gradius games. I really can't say more than that though. You really have to love Gradius in order to understand where I'm coming from though.

The only problem with otomedius is that you have to get online to play Coöp So it's not possible to do it on one and the same xbox and most japanese guys just kick you out of the lobby because you aren't Japanese.

you can also play via LAN, so that's not much of an issue.

I'd say for most of us getting together two people with Japanese 360s and copies of OG would be something of an issue

If you guys to plan on playing it though, you better get a copy now since the initial print comes with a DLC card that lets you use the Vic Viper pilot in her school uniform. They still have a bunch from play-asia, so get them before they go. How do I know if PA still has copies with the DLC cards on sale, cause it doesn't say anything there about them? Or is it too late already?

Hey Kurt, how come you didn´t mention that Castlevania themed level from Sexy Parodius in the article?

Because it's not really Castlevania-themed. It's more of general cartoony gothic theme that's loosely tied to Castlevania with some of the music. It's not in the same way that Jikkyou Oshaberi levels clearly had a Lethal Enforcers level, a Goemon level, etc.

But... but... it has a medusa as a boss with Poison Mind as the music. It could have at least gotten a mention as something worth noting. It's obvious they wanted to tie in the level a bit to Castlevania.

Something that should have been mentioned about the SNES Gokujou Parodius, each character has their own intro theme when starting a stage. It was nice to hear a short Castlevania remix when I picked Dracula-Kun I don't know if the Arcade version has specific intro themes because the game lags and the music skips a lot.

I'm pretty sure that the character specific intro theme are in all the parodius, including the arcade ones. Even if it last for only a few seconds it was a neat feature!

I just beat Parodius GameBoy and Wikipedia says there's a hidden stage in Stage 3. Does anybody know anything about it? I can't find anything elsewhere.
Also, if you feel like adding to the article, Parodius GameBoy is limited in power ups. 2 Options max, and amount of shots on screen are also reduced. There's also a very nicely presented Kukeiha Sound Test if you enter the Konami code at the Konami (or Palcom) logo, played by a band of penguins. I played every single shoot'em-up on the system and I'm almost positive Parodius is the best!

I played every single shoot'em-up on the system and I'm almost positive Parodius is the best! A bit late, but I recently got interested in Parodius again, so... Unless you have not figured it out by now: In Level 3 there is a cave-like section and at one point there is a very small pool of water, which has to be entered. Then you should be transported to the secret level. Yes, Parodius might very well be the best shmup on the Gameboy, but it has some tough competition with Gradius 2/Nemesis 2, ZAS and Sagaia, which are equally impressive. Still, Parodius scores high in every department: it is one of the more substantial shooters for the system with 8+1 stages, which are expertly designed and varied, the highly detailed sprites and backgrounds look spectacular and the music and overall sound design are amazingly nuanced. Few other companies knew how to handle the system like Konami did at the time (see also: Tiny Toons 2, TMNT 2, Nemesis 2, Castlevania 2). Actually I think it is a better conversion than the NES version, which suffers from frequent and severe slowdown. Another plus for the GB version is that it offers a nice option-menu with level-select and customizable autofire-speed. And occasionally, despite being in color, the NES artwork (like for the Cat-piratship) looks inferior to me.

Hey ya'll, a rather huge nut on this series coming through. I had been messing a long while with the series via exploring all the references and satires it plays with, and wondered if I could ever make a more extended edition on it in the article someday. Mainly this includes music (which I did majority of adding/discovering missing ones of the Parodius Music-Wikipedia article, researching out all the possible origins for the weapon sets characters have, some of the level elements in the stages across the series, and more. I kind of feel like Konami created something truly amazing during this time, and it's sad it's gone the now-standard F*cKonami-mantra these days.
