Sorry this is such a common question, but I'm having problems patching this game. For some reason I can't play Rudra no Hihou with AGTP's latest English patch. I use SNES9X, and when I load up the unpatched rom (with a (J) suffix on the file name) the music plays and no graphics display. When I patch it using UIPS (I'm on a Mac) it's the same story. I tried an unaltered rom that was listed with an [h1c] suffix in the file name and it works perfectly fine, but when I patch it, it no longer works! I found a prepatched rom and, while it's fully functional, it's an old version of the translation with graphical bugs, no spacing between characters, etc. So I can't bother with that. I figured I might as well try patching that one and all I got were bizarre palettes and graphical glitches. Same issues on the SNES9X emulator for Wii. What can I do to play this game using the most recent translation patch? There must be some way. It can't be an emulator issue if an old, prepatched version works. Maybe its the patching software I use and if that's the case I'm stuck because UIPS is my only option. Hope someone here can help.

Why do you have to patch it? Just put the rom and patch (named alike) in the same dir and the emu should recognize it.
Make sure the rom is a verified dump with the simbol (!).

Thanks for the reply.
Well, I feel like I've scoured the universe and there is no verified (!) dump of Rudra no Hihou. Good tip about placing the patch and game in the same directory, but it refuses to work in this case. I get the same result of music playing and no graphics. I'll keep searching.

1) Why the fuck are you using SNES9x? Get ZSNES instead.
2) Make sure the rom does not have a header. Right click the file and click Properties to check this. It should give you two filesizes. If they're both the same then that means it doesn't have a header. If they're different then you need to get the headerless version of the rom.
3) If all else fails then try the pre-patched version of the rom.

Actually, SNES9X has better compatibility than ZSNES. That is unless ZSNES was updated in the last 10 months and the compatibilities issues were fixed. *EDIT* Ok I downloaded the (J) rom from emuasylum ( www.emuasylum.com/index.php?page=roms&type=list&system=Super%20Nintendo&letter=R ) and the version 2.0 patch from the link you provided and tried the game on ZSNES and SNES9X and it worked perfectly. It must be a configuration problem. Make sure you have all the graphics layers turned on.

could you define "better compatibility" as it applies to ZSNES vs SNES9x?

Well, the last ZSNES version (1.42?) had tons of games broken (that worked on previous versions). I take ZSNES over SNES9X, but with so many non working games, I'll stick with SNES9X for now.
That is unless ZSNES was updated in the last 10 months, which is about the time I haven't bothered with emus.

ZSNES 1.51 has been out since January. Even back at 1.42, I wasn't aware of many games that were broken....some that had some real problems (SMT, savestating in Goemon games, etc), but I've always thought it held up pretty well in terms of compatibility compared to SNES9x, which I mainly use in rare instances (like how the BS Shiren someone found only works on one German revision of the emu).
Wish I had the power to run bsnes, though :\

SNES9X is perfectly fine for this, and a perfectly fine emulator overall. Seriously, if it has a header, keep a backup(like hanging onto the original zip file, until you have this sorted out) and try removing the header with this: sharebee.com/27a46f8b(anyone got a link to a site remotely similar to romhacking, while it's still down?) any of the 5 links will be SNEStool, which despite being dos, should still work fine on modern windows machines. If it doesn't have a header, try adding one, sometimes they actually need it. Also, according to the readme, though it only says this for text, you need to be in a high resolution mode. If you are using ZSNES, you'll need to be in 512x448 display mode, without graphical enhancements turned on. Oh, and just a (J) should be just as good as if it were to have a [!]

Oh wow. I can't believe it works. The problem was the ROM itself. I'd downloaded it from 5 other places (all labeled the same, too: "Rudra no Hihou (J)") and the patch wouldn't work. Downloading from emuasylum was the key to success, here. Thanks everyone, for all the help.
Also, I'm using SNES9X because that way I can play the game using the Wii and the classic controller. It looks just like the real thing on my tube TV.
