Another troubleshooting problem hot off the Duke 3D one, but I was wondering about how to manipulate DosBox in my favor for System Shock. See, the game actually runs decent, but only in windowed mode. Bizarrely enough, while in fullscreen, it runs at an abysmal pace. If all else fails, I could just run it in window mode, but it's kind of small... I at least want to know if there's any way to manipulate the DosBox window to enlarge it. Just any sort of help to improve performance would be appreciated.
Also, I've finally got System Shock 2 to not crash and have it work with the sound, but the performance is also damn bad. Only marginally better than that of the first SS, but it still runs too slowly and choppily for my tastes. I've done that thing where you only set the affinity to CPU 0, but seems I need to do more to get it up to speed. Can anyone help me kick SHODAN's cyber-ass?

Try changing your output renderer in dosbox.conf to ddraw or overlay. You can manipulate the window by changing windowresolution in dosbox.conf to whatever you like. Don't forget to set fullresolution to your LCD's native res so that your monitor doesn't have to try to switch to ultra low res modes. I believe you're going to want to set "aspect=true" if you have a widescreenm monitor, too. Not sure about System Shock 2...never had any performance issues, even when it came out

Are you using System Shock Portable? Because you should be. You might still have to mess with the DOSBox configuration as roushimsx suggests, though. (SSP includes DOSBox, you see.) And of course throwing your cycles around is an option. As for SS2, there are volumes of troubleshooting data out there for that one.

As for System Shock 2, reinstall it from scratch and this time just patch it to the latest version, crack it and run ddfix (google it) and that's all you should need to do to get it running perfectly.

Nifty! It's about time someone made something like that. You'll probably want the highres texture pack too, though. shtup.home.att.net/(Rebirth is pretty dead now, I guess.)

I am using System Shock Portable, and I intend to use this knowledge to make it more visually palatable. And hey, SS2 CAN run better! I've lost my motivation to play the two games, but I'll keep this knowledge around if it returns. Thanks all!

you should keep playing System Shock 2 because it has psychic monkeys and suicide bomber robots and a completely straight face when it asks if you would like be a Psi-based character
