This is an entirely hypothetical question, as we all know we are upstanding individuals who hold the law to our chests and stand pride beneath the flag of whatever country we happen to reside in.
However, suppose I had a friend, who was an aspiring jerk with a heart of gold and a flair for words, and he posted on the occasional message board under the pseudonym "Phadax". In his urge to rebuild his collection of games, he gets on a file sharing service and collects a GoodNES romset. Now he needs to sort them out to install on his X-Box, apparently oblivious to the shear disrespect he is giving to Taito by not going direct to the source for a copy of Little Samson if he wants to relive his childhood.
But Phadax seems to have noticed a flaw in this seemingly flawless caper: Being a full GoodNES romset, there are about 8000 more roms than he would ever care to get. Sure, he wants the originals, and some translations and hacks, but does he really need 23 overdumps and 45 bad dumps of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt? Or for that matter, that one hack some kid made in 1997 where Mario gets a pot leaf instead of a fire flower and shoots middle fingers at crudely rendered thingy goombas? "No," he would think to himself in this wholly imaginary situation. "No, I just want the good stuff."
Now as we draw to the last stop on this tour of fancy, Phadax, if he existed, would posit a question for those no doubt enraptured members of the audience.
Is there a program that sorts the roms between verified good dumps, overdumps, and the like? Where Phadax to find himself in this situation, he would greatly appreciate the help.

As far as I can tell, there are quite a few people on these forums that openly admit to using emulation and roms, so you don't need to be ashamed of it or anything...
As for your situation: I'm going to try and look into it myself. I'm pretty sure there's programs out there that will help for this sort of thing (I recall one program but I can't remember the name of it at all).
[edit] Well damn. I found it (Romcenter), but not only is their site filled with popunders which cripple just about every browser out there, it also doesn't support NES games. So much for that...

I'm not ashamed of it(1), but I figured I would at least try to make a chuckle out of it for anyone who took the time to read the damn thing.
So far, the best solution I've found is to dump it all in a folder and ctrl+f for (o and (b. I have to go over to a friends house to try it (I'm a bit nervous to try and unzip 2 gigs of roms onto a state university's computer) but that should bring up all the overdumps and bad dumps, where a quick select all and delete key should weed out A Boy and His Blob (U) (o32) and his 7000 friends and put everything down to something that will fit on one or two cd-rs.
I'll still have all the shitty hacks, but you never know when the mood to play Nude Punch-Out!! will hit you.(2)
(1)Or I wouldn't be if anything was actually happening (wink wink and what have you)
(2) God willing, that mood will never come.

Heh, if you know where to find a GoodNES torrent, send 'er my way!
Anyhow, the solution, I guess, is to get uTorrent (guess where you can find it?) and then simply uncheck anything you don't want to download (kind of a pain to do this at the beginning where every entry has a checkbox - what you want is to load the torrent and then go to the Files tab on the bottom half of the main window view). You can drag-highlight entries (though it won't show up as highlighted right away) or you can use arrow keys + shift to highlight entries. So anything under Super Mario Bros. gets highlighted, and you select Don't Download.

Phadax, where he to exist, would have no doubt sent you a private message with a link to the most recent complete GoodNES by now, since he would not want to sully the boards good name with such a brazen disrespect towards ancient and unprofitable IPs.

I remember the codes, but I can imagine at least one other person reading this is curious as to what [o3] means.

Well i know a guy like this, He post sonder the name SazinMaga. He would say "If you don't want the crap i can send you My set of NES roms i use for ripping sprites. The only bad dumps in it is Contra, but i'll give you probotector for the sheer fact that it's prettier." but no, no program exists he would also add at the end.

Phadax, if I know him like I know the rest of my fevered imagination, says the issue is resolved due to some old fashioned elbow-grease, but he does appreciate the offer.

OnAverageJoe, a poster at another forum says he just gets what he wants and nothing more, long lists seem to confuse him, not to mention that Dragon Ball Z games are just plain wrong...he says.

OnAverageJoe goes on to say that maybe Phadax should write a seperate disk with all the hacks he wants, and keep the originals for his originally planned disk.
