Does anyone have a functional rom of Samurai Shodown V Special? The rom I have gives me this bullshit when I try to strike it up on Kawaks or 2DFighter:
"essential program ROM 272-m1_decrypted.bin was not found"
I take it the rom I have is bad and missing an essential component which I can't find. Does anyone have a rom that works, or does anyone have the file I can put into my rom to make the game work? Thanks in advance if ya do.

sounds like you're trying to play one of the decrypted, bootleg, or censored sets instead of the main set? Run clrmamepro over your romsets (you can use the latest MAME to pull a dat file from) to help get them into shape.

Hmm... well, I have the program, but I honestly don't have a damned clue with what I'm doing with it. I don't even know where to check for guidance. Help!

Kawaks hasn't been updated in ages I believe. The rom set you have is probably the MAME one, which has been updated since Kawaks was still functioning.
I recommend you use MAMEUI (MAME32) or Final Burn Alpha. The latter one is really easy to use and it's better than Kawaks.

here's a super good tutorialFor what you want to do, read: Introduction (aka "This tool is a major time saver and you'll hate yourself for wasting so much of your own time over the years instead of using it") Installing (pretty much just unpack into a directory) The Profiler (build a DAT from the latest MAME.exe!) Settings (configure your ROM paths!) The Scanner Tell it to fix everything, don't bother scanning samples (unless you keep a set for MAME, of course!), keep sets split unless you hate having free hard drive space and hit that scan button. May take a while depending on speed of computer and size of ROM collection. You may be disheartened to find out that you have some bad or incorrect dumps. Instead of downloading all new romsets, you can grab just whatever missing files you need (if you don't already use the usenet, now's a good time to learn), throw them somewhere and learn how to use the rebuilder. The interface is a little daunting, the program is ridiculously powerful and I really don't know how I ever got along without it beforehand. I used Romcenter for a few years simply because it was easier to use, but god damn, clrmamepro totally crushes it in every other way. Kawaks hasn't been updated in ages I believe. Kawaks receives regular updates still. Same ol' website as it's been at for years.
