Thanks for the link, Garamoth. I'm downloading it right now.
A couple more minor spelling errors to fix:
In the paragraph about the "fat cactus": much like the Cactuar/Sabotender from th Final Fantasy games.
In the Haunted Wishing Well description: Apparently it's a refernce to the Banch? Sarayashiki
In the Grim Reaper description: No suprise
And in the second paragraph, can you add "And yes, it does seem a little odd." after this sentence: On first inspection, it seems like yet another dime-a-dozen platformer, one of the hundreds that are available for the NES.

There's actually one other known Japanese proto version that's still missing. It was after they dropped "Parody World" from the title, and it's presumably closer to the US release, without all the copyright-infringing enemy designs that were excised from the final product.

Any plans to update this article with an expansion on the Japanese prototype? It would certainly fit with the Halloween theme. If so, I translated the Japanese prototype and can provide information on some of the more obscure parodies in the game.

No plans currently, at least not within the next week. It'll be included in an upcoming book though, so it'll probably get revamped around then. (Thought if you'd like to write up some of the weirder parodies here, it would be appreciated!)

Well, off the top of my head, the Zombies sing a Japanese folk song complete with the music to match it. FYI, the reason why the Zombie sprites blink in the prototype is because of the NES's sprite limitation that can't display more than 8 sprites per scanline. That's why they removed one of them in the US release.
Also the spider boss is a reference to the Japanese title for the movie "The Thing".
The punk rocker's also got something going on with his text, but I can't explain it because I don't know the language.
Also Bert's name in the Japanese is a combination of bird and dragon. Birgon if you will...

Someone on Twitter was remarking about the fried shrimp being a pun on The Fly.

The punk rocker's also got something going on with his text, but I can't explain it because I don't know the language. The punk rocker doesn't have anything too stand-out with his text. Unless you mean the use of katakana for "Yoroshiku!!", which would only be for effect. He only says "I'm happy to be here in the middle of a cross-country tour!!" ただいま ぜんこくツアー まっさいちゅう、 ヨロシク!!

Ah ateji, the same wordplay used with Konami's Contra and Salamander titles. I don't know for sure if the katakana usage is meant to denote that specific usage of "Yoroshiku" wordplay (and using Kata as a switch instead of hira/kanji is its own wordplay/distinction). Basically, in this context, the usage of Yoroshiku is the equivalent of any rocker shouting "Hello, [city/state]!" to an audience during a concert. Even the Splatoon Squid Sisters say a variation of this in Japanese ("Ika, yoroshiku~!")

The katakana in this context probably means that he's yelling it...much like a singer, yeah.

Thought I'd plug my translation of the Monster Party prototype. In addition to translating the entire game, the game is in mostly finished state not unlike the US version. www.romhacking.net/translations/3115/The focus on the boss text was more on localizing it to be funny instead of translations that would lack humor. The alternative is this patch or the incomplete prototype. www.romhacking.net/translations/2457/
