Awesome. I'm surprised this game is so obscure. It's pretty decent.

I once heard that Shadow Force was actually planned for the SNES in Japan, but never produced. I think its a shame, since Technos' console ports always had some substantial differences from their arcade counterparts (the Double Dragon series, Combatribes and V-Ball to name a few) and it would've been interesting to see how those differences would've played out. The game's controls seems to had been tailor-made for the SNES too (the four attack buttons would've been mapped to face buttons, while absorb and jump would've become L and R respectively). It would've also given Technos' a bit more variety to their library than just Kunio games.

Really good game, but with the kind of bland animations single player starts to feel boring fast.
Maybe we'll get a DS release similar to Double Dragon Advance and River City Ransom EX, one can only hope.

Maybe we'll get a DS release similar to Double Dragon Advance and River City Ransom EX, one can only hope. Lol, right... What are the odds of that?? It's like asking for a port of Metamoqester.

I've downloaded the Japanese version of Shadow Force and the game has an opening intro not found in the US rom that explains the plot, as well as a character profiles. The game also doesn't have those ridiculous one-on-one battle scenes either. I'll check for other differences.
Gah! First Double Dragon 3 and now this?

I just started a game immediately in the Japanese version, so I never saw those. I must have completely forgotten that the Japanese version lacked the 1-on-1 fights between levels when I was writing about that part.

Not only that, both players can actually finish the game together, showing an ending with both characters (I just tried that with Kai and Blunet). According to the American flyer, there is supposed to be 14 endings, which seems ridiculous (since the American version forces both players to kill each other off at the end, like Double Dragon), but it makes sense now after playing the Japanese version.
Four single player ending and ten two player endings. If you count all the possible pairings in the game (including clone pairings), thats fourteen endings alright. Wonder what would happen if a character finish the game with his double?
Also the controls are now simplified. There's only a single punch and a single kick button and jump. Pressing punch and kick simultaneous will do the snatch attack. Pressing all three buttons simultaneously will do the player's desparate attack.

So I guess I can expect a revision for this pretty soon...?

Maybe I was playing the world version and got confused or something, or maybe the rom I downloaded was titled incorrectly. Is it possible that there are multiple versions of the Japanese rom? So I guess I can expect a revision for this pretty soon...? Yeah, I'll just tweak a few paragraphs, and post the modified paragraphs in this topic. That should be enough, right? I can send in a screenshot or two more if you need any.

I don't recall running low on screenshots, so just some revised text is fine.

There's two versions emulated in MAME. The US version and the Japanese version. Both are "Version 2". I'm guessing the Japanese version was probably finished a bit later. They probably reduced the number of buttons when they realized no one would convert their Street Fighter II cabinets for Shadow Force. Here's the Japanese intro, including logo featuring an advice from Kunio-kun. Will probably translate this later. A hot-blooded anouncement from Kunio-kun - If you're a bully, please reconsider your ways. Bullies don't become Heroes! In the year 2018 A.D., science has progressed to its peak, and mankind believed they have finally achieved peace. However, a larga organization called "Teaser" plots to use this science for "evil", leaving mankind on the brink of fear and despair. The head of "Teaser", "Dr. Wong", proclaims himself to be the "chosen one" and calls for a "new era of mankind whose souls have been purified". To carry out this plan, he assembled an army of monsters to annhilate the human race. However, as people begin losing their hope for survival, four warriors decide to stand up to them and destroy "Teaser". They are ninja masters that have become cyborgs to fight against evil.
