I'd argue with that statement and say Touhou Suimusou is the best fighting game to come out in years. The bulk of this argument will go into the Touhou games though.
Also, I believe Melty Blood is utter trash mediocre at best. I used to be on the opposite side of the fence, however.

Yeah I have absolutely no idea what that is.
EDIT: OH Immaterial and Missing Power. I heard it was very weird and atypical for a fighting game. Apparently has some very mixed reactions I guess. I have it lying around here somehow, I guess I should fire it up.
I like Melty Blood, but it's hardly outstanding in any real way. I like it better than Arcana Heart, which actually IS utter trash.

I have yet to play Arcana Heart! From what I've seen of it though, I can agree with you on that one.

It's pretty. Character design is moronic. It's pretty complicated, though, from my cursory look-over. There's plenty of things to learn, and remember. The system of characters and cards having separate movelists works pretty well, and can change the tactics for characters sometimes markedly.

HEY MAN I LIKED RUMBLEFISH 2 AND...
...oh.

The Rumble Fish 2 is one of the only arcade games I've ever played where I stuck around for a few rounds and then just walked away because I was too bored to finish playing. It looks kinda nice, but ugh.
Still, once again, better than Arcana Heart!

I honestly didn't care for the game, I preferred Akatsuki Blitzkampf and Melty Blood in terms of doujin fighters back when I played them.

The general consensus seems to be that people prefer Akatsuki Blitzkampf. Which is a pretty good game, but I definitely like this one better. Akatsuki is a bit slower, plus the animation is pretty bad and I really don't care for the character designs. It does have high res sprites though.

Question
are all doujin games based off of hentai?

Short answer: No.
Check out Kurt's coverage on the Easygamestation titles.

Well, I'm really digging this at the moment... the animation really is something else... I'd probably put it up there near Garou MotW. Characters have a nice feel and the OST is awesome... it's a keeper for me

Yea, I was on BBB back when it first came out. Definitely my favorite out of the two doujin fighters released around that time (the other was Akatsuki). Melty Blood will always have a place in my heart, however. Interesting fact; "Devil Daigo"'s appearances is a homage to Devilman ('70's Anime Version).

Heh. You should see the other appearance Fudou Akira's made (this isn't even an homage, it's a direct copy. Heh.) Along with Ryo, even. I'd link it, but the entire site is nsfw.

I've been a doujin fan for quite a while, and I'm a bit offended about the comments that were made about Melty Blood in the article. Excuse me for being a purist, but "HOMEBREW"?!?!?! The game was actually previewed and talked about in the Plus+Disc that was included with Tsukibako!!!! And French Bread, the company who made the game is HARDLY anything to be trifled with. If you do recall, they are also the company who made RBO (Ragnarok Battle Offline, a FINE game) which was more than professional. I don't know, maybe you should do some research and have a little bit more respect for the doujin community who makes amazing games. www.doujinstyle.com has lots. Ever heard of Eternal Fighter Zero? Or possibly even Immaterial and Missing Power??? Or even Akatsuki Blitzkamph? Or ANY OF THE TOUHOU SERIES OF GAMES?!?!!? FOR G-D'S SAKE DO SOME DAMN RESEARCH BEFORE MARGINALIZING DOUJIN GAMES TO THE LEAST DEGREE!!!!!! There. Rant done.
