Funny article though.

Heh, wow. I first heard of this game a year or so ago when I saw a link to that Wikipedia article in the site's "unusual articles" section. It certainly looked crazy when I read about it, but its insanity wasn't truly apparent until I played it. It's definitely one of the most tasteless games I've ever played. I mean, c'mon... Singlehandedly committing genocide against an entire nation because of immigrants apparently causing the crime rate to "skyrocked?" Digitized images of actual corpses?
Plus, the repetitive background music gets on your nerves after a while. Especially since it plays throughout the entire game.
Nice and funny article!

I just got done playing it. That music is annoying, the hit detection is horrible. I kept trying though, but the big head guy killed me.

I destroyed the secret weapon/large head.
The author's reaction to the content is kind of naive given the cultural situation of the time though. In the few years prior to 1997 Hong Kong based film makers, comic artists, etc. were making an extra effort to produce the most shocking stuff possible out of fear of immediate artistic suppression once China took over.

Great. Nice to see this go up. How about changing the second to last sentence of the second paragraph after the intro screenshots to this: You can move Chin around anywhere on the screen, and fire directly upward by pushing Y. The "with the D-pad" is a bit needless. How else would you move him? The author's reaction to the content is kind of naive given the cultural situation of the time though. In the few years prior to 1997 Hong Kong based film makers, comic artists, etc. were making an extra effort to produce the most shocking stuff possible out of fear of immediate artistic suppression once China took over. Other than the fact that Happy Soft was based out of Tokyo, this piece is about the game and the game alone. Not about those other things. The comment "It's obviously meant to satirize the handover of Hong Kong from the British to the Chinese in 1997, but does so an extraordinarily tasteless manner." says everything that there is to say. It really was just poor taste for the sake of poor taste.

Eh, my point is just that a lot of exploitation and reaction to this event was made, (from everywhere), and that this game's genesis can be compared to other major "me too" products like the movie Deep Star Six or the game Rival Turf. I just think that, the same way we always go to great lengths to talk about the origins of a game in an overplayed genre like 2D fighters or shmups, it wouldn't be inappropriate to put the existence of the game into context. On some level, I just think if a legendary shit game is going to be covered, it should go beyond the regular "hey this is poorly made crap" you can already see on Wikipedia and such. It's a good article overall and I have no serious complaints about it. Just a thought for the future.

Just got this e-mail from one Nick Gibson: You were wondering what movie that digitized grab of Jackie Chan is from - it's Wheels on Meals, which contains what is possibly Chan's finest fight of all time. Check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhXwPQU1iNo

That ruled. It's clearly a match of almost-equals, it's funny and there's a few neat touches that I really like. Man, I wish western movies would add some humour to their fight scenes.
