No, I mean the first episode. The info about that enhanced version that never came to be is from an Italian PC gaming magazine, in a retrospective about Peter Moulynex and Bullfrog. I'll contact the author to ask him the source. Anyway, I see the idea of putting movies on the billboards was came to be in the sequel after all.
Also a correction about the year: Syndicate Wars was released first on the PC, on the day of Halloween of 1996. PSX version followed in July 1997. I remembered PC reviews of SW from 1996 in fact, several magazines reviewed it back-to-back with Genewars (released just one month prior).

You can control four agents at once in the Genesis version. It's done via some button combination I don't remember.

I love the first game so much, though it people that remember it as a strategy gaming classic really need to take off the rose tinted glasses. I never drew the direct parallel to Cannon Fodder before, but that's really an apt comparison. It's in part because of its action gaming roots that I think that Starbreeze's interpretation is the best way to go vs. either a direct update (which would be considered too simple) or something more "modern" (like Space Siege). The co-op missions based on missions from the original game really got me excited, too. Can't wait to see how those turn out.
The persuadertron and flamethrower are so overpowered and fun in the first game. Really, flame throwers, shields, and persuadertrons are all you need for a major chunk of the game. Still, it's so damn fun. Quirks and all.

Also, speaking of the 16-bit ports, they were apparently handled by Bullfrog themselves. Domark only published the Sega CD port. SORTA RELATED: For some reason the Jaguar port was rated K-A/Everyone. They gave that to the Cannon Fodder port too, despite the fact it had plenty of blood.

Okay, just discovered something else: the Genesis version also has the anime-style portraits. I presume the Sega CD version also has them.
And I think that the SNES version was a port of the Genesis one.

I was delighted to see the demo for the new game on the XBL marketplace... then, after downloading, I noticed it's a multiplayer demo, what a bummer. Started it regardless, took 1 minute to realize its a horrible piece of garbage, quit, deleted.

Sounds pretty fun, but I don't have anyone to play the co-op with so I can't play it

Sorry to necrobump but the link to the Unofficial Syndicate Site triggered a Fake Browser Update alert through my anti-virus software. You should probably remove or update it.
I visited the Syndicate article because I remember reading about the Amiga CD32 and 3DO ports in EGM but never got around to buying it. Til yesterday. The 3DO port is in the mail and I'm pretty stoked to finally play it even if it isn't the greatest game in the world.
