www.hardcoregaming101.net/rambo/rambo.htmDon't know why I felt compelled to cover these, but here they are. I think the most interesting ones are the MSX games (one of which seems to be a ripoff of Hydlide of all things) and the text adventure. I never played much of the NES game, and I admire it in concept, though not so much in execution.

Heh, seems like everyone is on a Rambo kick lately, what with the new movie and all.
Just last week my boyfriend's buddies challenged him to beat Rambo on NES, saying that once he gets past the base, he'd get hopelessly lost, get his ass kicked time and time again, and then grow to hate the game with a passion. Well, all that happened, but in the end he did beat it. :P One helpful thing is that when you find a hidden medicine in a block, it'll usually respawn in the same block if you leave and reenter the screen. You can build up a supply of 9, but even that isn't so helpful when you get to the very end of the game. The challenge was probably partially inspired by their bitter defeats in their attempts to beat the Rambo III arcade and Rambo III on Genesis.

Noted, thanks!
I'd originally wanted to do this about a year ago, when I was checking out the differences between the SMS games, but the recent movie got me in the mood again. I think it's left the theaters though....too bad.

A Rambo article? Didn't expect that at all. I'm familiar with most of these games. Especially the Commodore 64 versions of Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III, and the MSX versions of Rambo and Super Rambo Special. The MSX version of Rambo is pretty short as you can see from this map. By the way, the article is missing mentions of the Atari ST and MSX versions of Rambo III.

Noted, thanks.
What's the deal with so many MSX ports being based off the Spectrum versions? Do they have similar hardware or something?

Rambo 3 for C64 should have some screens of the 16-bit versions for the Amiga/Atari ST.

Just a small grammar check, but you have it written: "Once you take control of Rambo again, you eventually need to fight[ing] a helicopter, which requires..."
The infamous "Flying Fortress" helicopter boss at the end of the game is a complete pain in the arse when I played through the game several years back. I remember that even with full medicines, health, grenades, and it literally came down to doing it on my very last margin of health and ammunition to beat the damn thing. There was a trick to bypassing the thing when you rescue the P.O.W., but I was never able to get it to work.

Yeah I skipped on the screenshot comparisons. Might go back and add em later, but eh. Is that because you haven't bothered taking/googling the screenshots? If that's the case then why not ask someone else to do that? I don't know about others, but I'm always interested in screenshot comparisons.

Added. I was too tired to boot them all up to grab more screens, but then I realized Mobygames had them so I stole them.

Nice article.Maybe those games aren't that good but at least some of them are interesting. A bit of trivia: the First Blood II game for the C64 has an easter egg.In the intro screen you can hear a Morse code message. This message spells the names of the game's authors.
