The levels are tweaked versions of the ones from SMB1 and SMB2j, game mechanics are a mix of both, and sprites have been altered. It also tells exactly who those celebrities are that you see in the game, and if I remember correctly, this is the first time most of this information about the game is available in the English language. Awesome.

Never seen this before. Interesting how much work they put into a promotion event.
But none of the celebrities looks even vaguely similar...

That's because those are pictures of them from today (the only versions the author could find) being compared to 8-bit sprite versions of themselves from almost a quarter of a century ago.

I don't understand why none of the other English fansites that cover All Night Nippon never bother covering the celebrities who appear in the game. It seems they simply download the rom and don't even bother to learn more about the game (even if it means looking up the game at the Japanese Wikipedia or something).
