I have to concur about the art style. It just doesn't look right. Additionally, I also can appreciate the "dumbed down" version of FF1 on PSP. Who has that kind of time anymore?

Whoever that proxy is, please thank them. I heard they were unlockable back when the game came out, but never heard anything solid on it.
I actually really like the art style! Moreso than Etrian Odyssey, anyway.

Part of it is the fact that some of those character portraits look incongruent with the rest of the designs. The very unusual proportions are unsettling, as well. To each their own, though.

Gah. I wanted to love this game especially since I preordered it. But ah well. The game just felt brutally linear and dismally old school. Sad since I think a lot of the systems the game had going for it(trimming the flowers boosted the world economy, etc.) had a lot of potential.
What do I mean by that? I talk to an NPC. I get a quest. So I go kill whatever it is to fulfill the requirements. Oh, I'm supposed to go talk to the guild master who is almost ALWAYS in the very back end of town tucked away to officially take it. So, how did the client manage to teleport to the guild master ahead of me? God. I'm just tired of that crap.
Then the quests. Gee, thanks for NO quest progress log! Especially if you're taking on a few at once. WHY?! God dang, back in the old days I put up with that shyte but I'm spoiled now.
Ah well, this game was rushed to market in ways. It was supposed to be an action RPG but after DQ9 or whatever for DS got delayed, it seems like they twinked 7D into a DQ clone to cash in. Boo.

Oh man, that actually makes me want to play it MORE. Quest progress logs are so MMO... they feel really impersonal. In real life, unless you're unrealistically fastidious, you're not going to have a log detailing every step of every task you do - you kinda just, y'know, REMEMBER it. (: And that's a lot more fun!

Lately, I've been taking long breaks between gaming spurts. I really don't want to be arsed to remember what the heck I was doing last week. Maybe it's a sign that I'm getting older and video games aren't as important in my life. If I can pick up a game where I left off easily, I'm more likely to play it. Maybe some college kids can enjoy this.

Updated this with 7th Dragon 2020: www.hardcoregaming101.net/7thdragon/7thdragon2.htmI lost interest in this PSP sequel almost immediately based on the changes they made (less classes, etc) but in spite of losing some of the more unique stuff, it's a better game overall. Reminds me that I need to look up who the new artist is...it definitely has a different look, sound and feel to the original game. Thinking about maybe digging out my cables and recording some the Diva Mode music, if anyone's curious to hear. It's...weird.

So I hear someone on RHDN just released a mostly complete (though not fully-tested) patch of 7th Dragon 1 (though as an April Fools joke, labeled an Etrian Odyssey retranslation).

Here's the Readme File. www.romhacking.net/translations/ds/patches/2176readme.txt (Copy/Paste the link to your web browser) I hope to get around to playing this game myself.

Yeah the patch was created by Geoff Embree (Pokeytax), who had previous worked on the Suikoden Card Stories and Suikogaiden patches. I've played about two hours of the translation on my DS Lite and it seems to be very well done.

In 7th Dragon 2020, second paragraph: ”As a group of survivors known as Murakamo 13”: Should be Murakumo. This is repeated later in the article, as well.
Eighth paragraph after class introductions: ”...the enemies are now fully animated and attach the screen,”: Attack? Attached to? I guess it should be the first.

Noticing a few typos still persisting in this now that I'm rereading it several years later. More importantly, the article just kind of ends after 2020 II without providing a concrete final summary. Don't really have the ability to write up the mistakes at the moment, but I'll edit this to include them in a few days.

Another 7th Dragon game, 7th Dragon III Code: VFD ( trailer here) , will be released in Japan this year for the 3DS. Might be a good chance to update the article.

7th Dragon III announced for US release, in July. It looks like it will keep the name intact despite the first two not being (officially) localized.
